Yes and the data shows something like a 90% rate of staying married (I.e. 10% or less divorce rate).
The “knowing each other” part is somewhat knowable. If you abstain from sex during courtship you keep the hormones (dopamine and high dosage of estrogen) out of the man and woman’s systems. There are multiple studies that show premarital sex leading to a far to early attachment. Without that things like communication take the front seat.
