Has anyone else noticed that when we update a term it's always more words? This one replaces one word with two. Sorta like we did with: 'personnel' becoming 'human resources'.

But I think "hobo" carries the connotation of a more adventurous, travelling lifestyle.

This is how I think of the word 'hobo' - when I was a kid, at the tail end of the depression in the early '40's, hobos were a common sight everywhere. I never knew of any fear of them - in my memory they were treated sympathetically and humanly.

I know my mother would prepare meals for them as they came by asking for 'something to eat' - but she would require that they 'do some work' while she prepared it. They were handsomely rewarded because she could make a feast out of anything edible.

And she explained to me = "it lets them feel better about themselves to know that they 'earned' the meal'."

I've never forgotten that truism.

Ownership and control of the language has always been a marxian "point-of-light." Believing it to be mandatory for realizing the revolution and complete changeover.

It's part of the leftist media's smugness and condescension toward those among the populace they feel superior to.

They really have believed that they can manipulate the rank and file American through the printed word.

Most conspicuous with this attitude were the original neo-Marxists who got heavily into language deconstruction.

They regarded anything foundational and stabilizing for a society as an enemy of marxism - so language has been among their prime targets.

Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable and to give the appearance of solidity to pure wind.

The Revolution will be complete when the language is perfect.

~ George Orwell

Marxism holds that the transition of a language from an old quality to a new does not take place by way of an explosion, of the destruction of an existing language and the creation of a new one, but by the gradual accumulation of the elements of the new quality, and hence by the gradual dying away of the elements of the old quality.

~ Stalin, from his Marxism and Linguistics

It's always been about incrementalism.

They control the language. They dictate what is and is not considered "uncouth".
