Why do cities favor leftist politicians?

We know the county voting maps.
Cities are small islands of blue surrounded by an oceans of red.
Why? What is it about cities that make them favor democrats?
Race? Colleges indoctrinating kids? Just simple group think? Why can't cities be more red? What are the mechanisms controlling voters in these cities?

Collectivism vs Individualism. Urban areas tend to be more collectivist almost by necessity. Rural tends to be more individualistic by necessity.

Lots of poor people crammed in small areas who get bread and circuses.
You get poor people everywhere but ones who are in urban areas tend to be much more beholden to leftist politicians than ones in rural areas who are expected to be at least somewhat able to function.

Democrats sell themselves to a certain demographic near election time, but never follow through with the promises.
Large cities have large populations of those demographics.

It's not that cities favor democrats. A larger percentage of the population favors democrats and the largest cities have a higher population.
