Collectivism vs Individualism. Urban areas tend to be more collectivist almost by necessity. Rural tends to be more individualistic by necessity.

Collectivism isn't the problem so much as the fact that they want government as the collective authority. Voluntary collectivism can be very useful, especially after natural disasters.

I would phrase it more as dependency vs independence. Dense areas rely on government for the very basics, so they gravitate towards the nanny state.

Go sit down at the lunch buffet in Andalusia, AL, and then go to a cafe in Midtown ATL. Won’t take long to figure it out: more rugged independence in red areas.

Study on Rats

Check out this study they did on rats that were left to be in a high density to mimic life in large cities. They lost their minds

Many cities tend to have universities, which educate people. The more educated a population is, the more left-leaning it trends. Educated people often intermingle with people from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Also, opportunity tends to be a factor as well. People who are left-leaning often migrate to areas where there are more job opportunities, and where there are a lot of interesting things to do. Rural areas tend to not have many job opportunities or interesting things to do.

And the students have to stay there after their education?

Many cities tend to have ghettos too. And human shite maps, and needles all over the sidewalks, bums, etc etc etc. Maybe you think human safaris are interesting; I do not.

Blue cities are havens for the sheep....weaklings require large numbers to make them feel safe and recognized.

Melt harder.

I've been to and spent a significant amount of time in rural Louisiana. I live in a city.

In the rural areas I visited, outside of hunting and finishing, there wasn't much recreational activity available. The main streets in the towns I've visited are all shuttered mom and pop businesses that no longer exist. There's a scattering of one fast food restaurant or another and maybe one mom and pop restaurant, but not much else. There are a lot of houses that sit vacant.

In the fall, everyone looks forward to football season at the local high school. Friday nights are all the rage, but there's not much else to do. If you're lucky, there may be a festival happening when you're there, but that's generally one weekend out of the year.

Oh, then there's church on Sunday.

Outside of this, it's not much else. Sorry. I don't make the rules.

Well, I guess it's great that I live in the area of the city where there aren't needles all over the sidewalks or bums. I checked last week, and my home value went up $5,000 from the last time.

God bless American cities.

Think about what would happen to people living in NYC if the government disappeared.

Riots, violence, looting, trash everywhere, no public transportation, etc - all within a few days. People would be freaking out.

Now imagine if the government of a small southern town disappeared.

It might be a couple of weeks before many noticed, and most people would be happy about it.

Why? What is it about cities that make them favor democrats?

The DNC figured out a very long time ago that the largest cities and state capitols are where the majority of votes come from, and in capitols, the power center.
They heavily invest in those areas. Money in campaigning, deals to woke companies and banks, investing to control media companies in the area such as news, TV and radio.
Some cities such as Chicago, NYC, and St. Louis are just naturally corrupt, which allows the dim influence to prosper and breed.
Their advertising agencies under their influences target businesses in the area. And then turn them either by contract, or threat to blacklist them with other advertiser and investment firms.
The Dims will target a city that has the most perceived value to them. And then dump millions into turning it.

I actually think that living in a big city provides a layer of anonymity that many people prefer. City dwellers are not as inclined to think of themselves as individuals, or to exercise individual agency. When you are one anonymous dot in a multitude of dots, you want to think and vote like all the other dots. Classic herd mentality.

It's harder to commit crime when the targets are far apart in the country and fewer places to hide.

Vice-versa for the city.

You should; you seem to have a strong preference for the rich and vibrant culture of the US metro beehives. Immerse yourself and be enriched.

They don't. It's not that they control the state's precincts, just the largest urban precincts.

There aren't any housing projects in the suburbs...they are all in the cities!

That is hilarious. Universities indoctrinate, they do not educate.

The more people are crowded together, the more they desire protection from the government against things people do to each other.
