Kudos to you

Are you (or any one here) aware of any site/app etc that you can do search for an item you want and it only lists US companies?

I am not aware of anything, would make purchasing US products easier to find.

Amazon supposedly states country of origin but I dont see a way to filter.

I got burned by a company leaving the U.S. back in 2015 because of democrat policies. Medtronics makes a lot of very sophisticated hospital equipment. They were pissed about the corporate tax rate and didn't believe Trump could beat Hillary in 2016 so they moved to Ireland. I got hit with taxes for selling my stock of Med-USA and buying stock of Med-Ireland when I just kept the damn stock. When Trump won and lowered corporate rates they probably kicked themselves for the move.
If companies believe that Trump will be successful and the voters will continue voting for pro business candidates then we are going to have a lot of manufacturing expansion.

It's the cost of labor stupid!!!! I remember the 1980s Air Jordan that cost retail was about $140. The manufacturing cost was $8. The rest of costs were shipping and marketing and Michael Jordan royalty.

I can tell you this. In our field we are definitely not the cheapest. My customers bitch all the time about are pricing; however, they want our knowledge, our quality, our certifications. We also will hop on a plane almost anywhere in the world to facilitate a solution to a problem.

That shite costs money. I have been told by several of our sourcing specialists that if we are within 20-25% of the lowest dollar offering....we will get the work.

Most of our customers have learned the hard way not to poor boy it with our products. Lost sales most times will be in the 100's of thousands for our company.
Failed product will cost my customers millions in missed outages, litigation, etc. Some will take the risk and some will lose their arse.

Difficult to find skilled engineering and production personnel? frick yes.
That's the thing. Some people act like there's the massive latent pool of unemployed skilled and semi-skilled workers in the US. But experiences I've had and seen have been the opposite. It's freaking hard to hire qualified and productive workers.

How we're going to hire all these new workers, at economically competitive wages is somehting I've never seen explained.

People still want to buy Made In USA if you give them a reason too.
What would the reason be for any commodity item, tho? If I'm business owner buying, say office supplies. How will my business be better off by buying office supplies made in the US for a higher cost?

The problem is tariffs can be rolled back as capriciously as the are enacted. How do you think companies that move production here will feel when the next president ends all the tariffs, and they are stuck with manufacturing facilities that are overnight uncompetitive?

Manufacturing output is as high as it's ever been but it's being done without a bunch of cars in a big-arse factory parking lots..

There's a factory around here with container trucks coming and going all day long, but the same 10-12 cars are always in the parking lot.

In other words, automation.

To build in China, you have to give them all the technology you use, so they can use it against you.

Right. They are commodities. Commodities are what's going to get tariffed, tho.

Yeah, that's obsolete thinking. The knock on China has been that they cannot do quality work. That's becoming more untrue by the day. They are actively making crazy efforts to start competing on quality.

I remember when people regarded anything from Japan as junk (including cars). Today... not so much. And that shift happened in less than a decade. China is in a better position than Japan was in the 70s to make that shift.

The biggest impediment China has is dealing with their government and "legal" system. But, unfortunately, our government and legal system are starting to make China's look like sentinel of stability and consistency.

I remember when Walmart used to advertise "Made in the USA" at their stores and had many American made products. Now I like to play a game when at Walmart called "find a product Made in the USA". The few things you will find are Anchor Hocking glasses and Lodge cast iron.
