If there are concerns about COVID b/c we have 2 geriatric candidates, then why not just make them virtual? This isn't some daunting task and eliminates 100% of the health concerns.

Because Biden would then still have to participate.

Or just have it set up like they currently do where the candidates are 20+ feet apart and the moderator is 20+ feet away from them, but just no crowds?

I don't know but I do know there better not be a debate where Trump is sitting in the Oval Office, Biden is in his basement and the moderators are in NYC.

kind of reminds me about the confusion about why law grads couldn't take the bar when you're already socially distanced

Because covid health concerns aren't why 1 side wants the debates cancelled

Trump should push hard for live debates with no audience and all precautions, IMO. Start there and give them little room to push back on safety.

If there is still a claim of health worries, then point out the reality that one of those people will be President for four years, and if they can't stand in an empty auditorium and argue for a couple hours, they don't need the job.

Meanwhile, start planning for virtual debates with the mindset that the left is going to try and close the Biden deficiency gap using this method for cover. Figure out how to ensure Biden can't be propped up in such a circumstance.

I do not think they can get away with no debates. Perhaps they can force them to be virtual, but I think it's silly considering they can be 30 yards apart in an empty room. The media is strong because they'll all opt for the Biden-friendly method, but I don't think they're strong enough to get rid of debates. The narrative of Biden's deficiency is already too well-known.

Because Biden will 100% have somebody off-camera feeding him answers.

Why can't they just test them before? They can go one on one with no audience if they want.

They could. It's no different than Biden being on the Breakfast Club remotely.

But he's also been to a large funeral and a few HS gyms for press conferences. Why can't he attend a debate in an auditorium with Trump and a few moderators?

Surely it could be arranged to where he's in contact with less people than this...

They literally just packed a church full of people for a several hour long memorial service.

so it was OK for Biden to debate Bernie when Bernie still had a shot, but he cant debate Trump? Come on man, these can easily be done with health and safety precautions taken

Exactly. If we can have sporting contests without fans then we sure as hell can have a debate without an audience.
