Why aren't gun control advocates pushing for the ban or limitation of handguns?

According to FBI statistics over 90% of gun homicides in the USA are committed with handguns.

So if the objective is to limit the number of gun homicides each year, why not target handguns?

I have even asked liberals in debates on the 2A if they want to ban handguns, and they all say no, even though handguns are by FAR the leading weapon of choice for those who kill with guns.

The logic of gun control advocates makes no sense to me.

That's further down the road after this idiocy doesn't work.

They want to get rid of the scary looking guns first.

Handguns are primarily used for inner city crimes.

The soft bigotry of low expectations.

Well, I think that background checks and red flag laws cover handguns as well. I also think that limits on magazine capacity -- if low enough -- would apply to handguns. And any law requiring a lock or other device to slow reloading would apply to them.

The real reason is because that is something that might actually substantially impact firearm homicide and suicide rates. If you pass a law that actually helps address those, you don't leave yourself an excuse to go after more.

They are it's just not obvious yet. Gun control language will be vague so it acts as a catch all down the road.

Once the definition of banned guns morphs from "Assault Weapon"; to "Weapon capable of being altered to Automatic", then morphs to, "Semi-Automatic"... Voila! the majority of all handguns are restricted.

These laws will have legal loopholes big enough to sail an aircraft carrier through.

I learned the other day that the UK banned all guns, including hand guns after a March 1996 shooting that was similar to Sandy Hook (most victims were elementary aged kids).

A month later a literal retard in Australia went on a shooting spree in Tasmania that left ~28 people dead at a tourist site, his initial targets were a couple who outbid his dad on a few real estate transactions. This shooting is what led to Australia banning long guns.

Pretty amazing those 2 countries, which one could argue we have the most in common with in the world, both cucked out after 1 shooting 20+ years ago.

In that context the fact that America has held on to their principles for so long is all the more impressive.

Most of them say they're not for banning pistols because they say they have a legitimate defense purpose

Which is ironic because the US v. Miller decision leaves much more room for restricting handguns than it does rifles.
