we should, but perhaps that isnt common sense gun control.

What would you like to see done on the gun control front?

I would like to see more extensive background checks.

I dont see why there cant be mental health check ins every 2 years or so. no different than renewing a drivers license.

I would like the assault weapons ban from the 90s to return.

I used to be opposed to handguns more vehemently: i view their purpose solely to be to surpress another human being. but as others have said, for the purposes of self defense, I can see the need to supress another human.

Do you think that will eliminate a significant amount of murders?

You have to get a mental health check to drive a car?

Pretty sure that had no significant effect on gun deaths.

So, you want to ban guns that are responsible for a small amount of deaths but not the ones that are responsible for the majority of deaths?

Ok. To include what?

Because driving on public roadways is a privilege meted out by the state entity that maintains those roadways. Owning a firearm is an enumerated right. You legally couldn't implement this without repealing the 2A. Additionally, only a judge, not a "mental health" evaluator, can suspend a person's rights.

It didn't actually ban anything material to the operation of a semi-automatic rifle. What exactly would that do?

Sorry, commercial drivers licence. left a word out.

and not mental health, but physical health. Make sure none of those guys fall out from diabetes from all the fast food they eat on the road. Required by law to have a physical performed by a registered physician and then it is the licensee's responsibility to then file that physical with their DMV.

They never say what "more extensive background checks" entails. As if an FBI background check isn't sufficient.

You're confusing a right with a privilege. Driving a car is a privilege, owning a gun is a right.

Do we now get to test people before they can vote too?

You spent any time at a truck stop lately?

It might make sense if the goal has nothing to do with saving lives.

Why does it make no sense? With the obvious outlier of VTech, handguns are not used in mass shootings. I dont want to die running errands just so some incel can try to beat another incel's high score. I'll run the risk that I am a decent moral person and that no one will seek me out to kill me individually.

You're more likely to drown in your bathtub than in the scenario you laid out above.

There are a shitload of them that are obese and weird as well but seem to be slipping through the cracks of your golden standard for gun ownership.

You're gonna rely on your morality to protect you from a person trying to kill you? That's a new one.

I'm well aware. I'm not the one trying to ban objects that kill fewer people than bathtubs, though. Because STATISTICS.

Well, every one of them has passed a DOT physical and has navigated that bureaucratic impossibility. All so we can be safer on the roads. Sorry, they dont look healthy to you. I dont really care about how people look who own guns, just as long as they are fit to own them.

No one has tried to murder me yet.

that is not a challenge.

Yeah, criminals will be lining up for their gun ownership physicals.

You haven't been killed in a car accident or a house fire yet either. Perhaps you should get rid of those useless seat belts and fire extinguishers.
