Because I fund my own fricking retirement
Posted on 10/24/18 at 11:34 am to volod
I paid into the system for 44 years, 20 of them at the highest level. Doggone right I feel "entitled".
My brother, who is an ordained minister, never earned a lot and was stricken with cancer five years ago at age 63. He was treated and survived and avoided bankruptcy only because of Medicaid and private charity. At one point he had a tumor the size of a baseball in his chest crowding his heart.

It is bankrupting our country. Conservatives are able to oppose “free” things when the realize there are negative consequences to the country. That you are dumbfounded how conservatives would oppose these social programs simply because they personally benefit says everything about you.
Social security funds have been used to bolster our Federal budget for decades. It’s the govt who bankrupted social security, not the other way around!

So basically the consensus is I'm sending 7% of my to a black hole and I better save for my retirement or be prepared to get a second career later on life.

At its current rate, Social Security will be insolvent by the time I'm at retirement age.
FWIW, I'm not for completely scrapping it, but Social Security needs to be heavily reformed:
1) Gradually increase the retirement age
2) Reduce non-paying member benefits
3) Allow for privatization options
4) And, most importantly, prevent Congress from ever touching that money

Your money was stolen. Any money being paid to you today is being stolen to those working today. You aren’t being “paid back” you are part of a ponzi scheme

Not worried about losing it... the feds have been taking money from me for 35 years and giving it to others.... I'm not a Nobel prize winner for mathematics and even without Common Core I predicted the sustainability of a program where politicians have full access to piss away any and all money collected with zero accciuntability.
It has been doomed since the day the concept of lockbox was destroyed.

Yes. You are putting your money in to pay those drawing now, because they demanded govt services (through votes) in days gone by. They also wanted lower taxes. To give them this the govt used money that should’ve been set aside for social security funding..it’s a Ponzi scheme. Some do well in Ponzi schemes, like those drawing ss now, but when it collapses we all do badly

I accepted long ago by the time that I reach retirement I’ll never see social security

Social Security and Medicare will never be eliminated. There may changes to eligibility or indexingmay be instituded, but the programs won't be eliminated, and they will be funded.

funny you talked about this the other day with my retired parents. They went to casino this weekend dropped a good sum of money. I was like dad sucks to lose that right. He was like no big deal we only play with our social security money anyways. lol. I said what if it dried up. he was like no way I payed the max forever and will never get back all the money I paid those bastards. He thinks the reason it is crappy now is because of the crooked politicians robbing it for other useless handouts. He was like just like at phones. lol. I am 48 and he thinks I will get something from all the money I have paid in but might not as much as he will. We will see.

Why don’t you get off your arse and provide for yourself and your family and quit worrying about getting something for free. Your a classic example of someone who has their priorities out of order. If you work hard enough you won’t have to worry about the government. Period

I do. This isn't about me, this is about those less fortunate.

Because this board is all about MAGA. Criticism of Republicans is automatically downvoted.

Dear Sub-Human Filth,
I'm appealing to all of you stupid idiots to vote Democrat in 2018. That is if you have the basic education enough to read a ballot, anyway. I understand the majority of you racist rednecks can't even read this post, though. But those who can, please pass my message on to the rest of your inbred family.
We Democrats are morally, culturally and intellectually superior to you in every way. I will qualify myself by noting that I have a Liberal Arts degree from a college, which you obviously have never been to, if you even know what one is. I also have a black friend. I have been told by several professors that everything you hold dear is terrible. Therefore you, personally, are also terrible.
I don't know you, but I know that you're racist. I also know that you hate gay people and still get scared during lightning storms.
The religion which you hold closely, greatly believe in, and which brings you comfort--you are wrong because I'm smarter than you and I'm telling you so. It is one of the many reasons why you are stupid and I'm better than you.
You see, us Democrats want a system which helps everyone in the world. Our system is designed around love and kindness to everyone. If you don't agree, I hate you.
It's not too late to change. If you knew your history, which of course you don't, you'll remember a time in America when Indians were dragged away from their homes and forced to assimilate into white society. Well, we want to change that kind of behaviour (sorry for my spelling, as I'm not from your country) by making sure you go to college and have a small apartment in a big, busy coastal city, where you belong. That will help you rid yourselves of your backward, incorrect culture and way of thinking. We'll do everything we can to make sure you agree with us and say all the right things and not be brainwashed against thinking the same way we do.
All of you stupid, backward, redneck, racist, homophobic, uneducated yokels need to realize we're trying to build a classless society where we all get to live in harmony with each other, where we're all equal. If you only understood that you wouldn't be so much worse of a person than I am.
So please vote Democrat. Help me help you, you worthless motherfrickers.
Did I do that right?

Why are you not afraid of losing Social Security and Medicare?
I could actually do it *better* if I didn't have to pay SS and Medicare taxes. I could easily invest that money better than the government.

Those are 3 of the most popular programs in American History.

I'm planning for retirement without SS and hoping it craps out sooner rather than later so I can get more of my check to put towards my personal retirement account. If given the option to opt out of paying for SS to never get the benefit, I would take it in a heartbeat.

Here it doesn't matter, on reddit it can b/c some of the subreddits won't let you post unless your "karma" is above a certain threshold.
