No, I have. You guys offer this: absolutely NO change at all. Nothing. The 2A says we can have guns, we don't and can't look at people's medical records, so things will just keep going on as they are now, and you have to hope and pray your kids school isn't the next one on the news.
Let's hope and pray it doesn't happen again, but if it does, meh, shite happens, let's just go fishing.

Less people getting treated will make things?worse, not better. Normal anxiety and depression should not disqalufy anyone. Its a terrible idea
That's also a consequence.
I'm willing to entertain red flagging people due to mental illness, but it needs to be done the right way and not some person unilaterally putting someone on a list.

It's a hobby.
I own well over a dozen and shoot regularly.
Pussy arse liberals think owning guns makes you scared. When in fact most of them would probably enjoy shooting sports if they got away from the hivemind libtard mentality

Everyone who isn’t you. Which is everyone. Your guns don’t keep you safe from the evil government. They have more and bigger ones. But yeah by all means pretend that you are safer. I’m sure it gets you through each day.

I just stated a possible solution. I just don't understand why some of you are so happy to hand over your rights to an entity that time and time again has proven to chronically abuse it's power in it's own self interest.
We have due process in this country. We need to use it.

Ok. Can you answer these questions please.
What mental illnesses should bar one from owning a gun?
How long shall one be unable to own a gun?
What standardized test will we use to decide if one is capable of owning a gun?
What appeals process will one have to appeal the decision?
And last and not least.... do you or do you not agree that punishing people for seeking help will stop people from seeking help.
And those that do seek help, or those who do get evaluated by a mental health specialist, how does one determine if they are being truthful?
If one suspects that their answer can affect them in a negative way, or will effectively strip them of one of their rights, why would they answer ANYTHING truthfully?
I await your response.

It requires a different kind of gun to hunt doves, quail, grouse, pheasant, turkey, ducks, geese, squirrel, hogs, deer, mule deer, elk, grizzly and carjackers. One won't do.

Cliven Bundy showed what a small group of well armed citizens can do. I think he's an a-hole, but the point still stands.

Was your day in court the solution?! That already exists, how is that going for us?

The only reason my neighbor isn't as corrupt as the politicians in office is because that sonofabitch isn't in office. I'm not ready to hand over any rights to an abusive entity, but I also don't want to sit on hope as the thing that keeps my kids safe at school

Again, we have it, and it isn't doing anything for preventing gun violence, brother.

But uh..... I’m not scared of any of that......
I like my guns because I have more land than you ever will, and a disposable income that lets me have a costly hobby such as shooting guns.
Fear has absolutely nothing to do with it

Yeah, they have more and bigger ones, but I've noticed that tyrannical governments usually wait till the citizenry is disarmed before becoming tyrancial.
I guess politicians don't like to be shot?

Same here.
The OPs solution literally makes it more dangerous.
Anyone deemed as a danger to themselves or others. This would be legit mental illness. Also hold people respinsible for not reporting threats

Not very good. Remember when the FBI was told about the Parkland shooter multiple times and they failed to act? And you want to give that kind of ineptitude even more control over your life? No thanks.

I'm not saying we use "hope" as a tactic to keep us safe. I'm saying we need to be careful how we go about doing this because it's full of pitfalls.

Sure it is. We're at all time lows (or close to it) for gun violence, brother. I know that pesky fact keeps getting in the way of your moral panic.

Putting -ology behind something doesn’t make it science

Paranoia, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, being a diagnosed sociopath. There can and should probably be more on that list, but the objection that will get raised is the list will grow until basically everyone can't own a weapon, so therefore, no list should ever be created.
quote:
How long shall one be unable to own a gun?
Depends on the diagnosis.
quote:
What standardized test will we use to decide if one is capable of owning a gun?
Seems like we already have the tests needed to diagnose many mental illnesses.
quote:
What appeals process will one have to appeal the decision?
None. If you have a diagnosis, you have a diagnosis.
quote:

Yes. Flawed system now, flawed system then. Apply for a gun, have to go through mental health testing.
quote:

The fact that people will lie for their own self-interest isn't a reason to not make sure they aren't crazy.

So this article basically says that liberals would get destroyed in a civil war .

Should anyone be able to own a tank? A military helicopter
Man this is some dumbass logic.
To answer your question, yes they should. But...those things aren't firearms.

You'll find out why eventually.

You're not saying anything but rinse and repeat what we already have.

Go tell that to the parents of the kids in Santa Fe and Parkland. Tell that the kids and spouses of the people in Vegas. That's just this year, and it's not all encompassing in any way. Go tell them, "But, gee, we're doing really well, the numbers are much better," and see if they say, "Hey, you're right. Why bother doing anything else? We're on the right path." Know why you won't? Because we can and we should do much better than that.
