I guess if you want to believe the alternative, it's that the people running the government suppressing religious rights and paying social media to censor, and spending years in a farce investigation of their political enemies is so dedicated to freedom and democracy that they are willing to pay billions to prop up a guy who is corrupt and harbors Nazis and suppresses churches and political opponents and the press and any form of protest.
