William Seward made a pretty good investment for the country in 1867, when he bought 6 million square miles of Alaskan territory from Russia for $7 million dollars. Of course, leading newspaper critics, like the NY Times, panned his decision so much it became known as "Seward's Folly".
Thomas Jefferson made a pretty good investment with the Louisiana purchase. It is what set us up geographically to be an inevitable super power.

The worst was the Wright Brothers. They invented the airplane and spent all their money on losing lawsuits against people making better airplanes.

She has access to inside info so I would not say she is the greatest. How would she do on a level playing field?

Trick question. The real answer is Paul Pelosi. He invests almost zero time in doing anything and his wife is off in DC while he gets hammered at home by his boys.

It is fascinating that one person can come up with a theory and he is the expert and no one contests it for fear of being ostracized. The Mayans were peaceful was believed for many years, lol.
The Egyptians built many forts extending up the Nile into Nubian territory. The theory was that the Egyptians were protecting themselves. Many of these forts were buried under water with the Aswan dam. But they were researching one further up and said this doesnt make sense. The sleeping quarters for the men could hold at most a few hundred, yet the silos storing grain were immense, enough to feed them for half a century......They were not forts to defend, they were forts for trade...grain for gold.
