How much harder can the media go after DJT? They’ve shot everything they could at him outside of literally doing so (they would if they could).

I’d love for him to regain the presidency, but I’m not sure he can pull it off again.

I’m not convinced that I trust Desantis to not succumb to the trappings of the office and the swamp pressure. Trump proved he won’t, largely made himself and is therefore harder to take down. Desantis

For those who favor Trump over Desantis - to what end?

What do you think Trump has to offer in another term? I concede that it is a slap in the face to the elites of both parties, which has value.

What else?

They will go after DeSantis just as hard. Don't kid yourself. Remember Romney was a misogynist, McCain a gruff old meanie with mental health issues, GWB was literally Hitler before Trump who's literally Hitler.

It has value, but getting in pissing matches on Twitter with Chrissy Teigen and John Lewis eventually leads to diminishing returns.

I would happily vote for either. Who has a better shot at winning is an interesting question. It may be true that Trump would bring more votes for himself AND for his opposition than Desantis would. Trump has a loyal following and loyal opposition like no other. On the margins of swing voters/apathetic voters does the loyal following outweigh the loyal opposition? I guess that is the question.

With that said I lean towards Desantis. He's younger, could go for 8 years, and I've been incredibly impressed with his policies and his delivery.

Doesnt seem like that would be an issue in 2024

DeSantis- less baggage, same message.

Dumbest argument ever. No one cares about the media’s fake baggage. Trump won big in 2020. Fraud is the only thing we need to worry about.

I think we owe a huge debt to Trump for getting the radicals out from under their rocks and exposing the fakes in our own movement

But governance-wise, I think his term was mostly mixed with a whole lot of useful rhetoric (largely for the above reasons) and minimal policy advances. He used the office to defend and promote conservative positions, and that defied my expectations and I appreciated it. But there wasn't much to show for it.

Of course, a Trump loyalist will ask whether a more traditional candidate can accomplish anything, which is fair (but not an answer).

Trump.

There are still people out there who don’t even know who Ron DeSantis is.

Well neither is "Desantis is a lock" nonsense
Not sure what Ron brings to the table vs Drumpf

Other than losing Hispanic support

Desantis.

There are some never Trumpers guilty about supporting Biden with the way this is going who would, right now, probably pull the lever for Desantis.

Now, two years from now, will any of those people stick by him? No idea.

but there are a lot of blue collar dems that will vote for trump that will not vote fore desantis

I think its a matter of Republicans being dead at the national level right now without a proven candidate like Trump who can cobble together a coalition of low propensity voters.

I think a 2nd term of Trump would be very similar to the first. I doubt we would see any swamp draining, or reckoning, or accountability. But it would beat the alternative.

What if, and just hear me out, they ran TOGETHER? Trump would give way to Ron for ‘28.

The "baggage" argument is way overblown. Anyone who has an issue with Trump and his rhetoric isn't voting for him anyway, and is now a reliable democrat voter. The professional class is the only group who has a problem with Trump's style, and they are dyed in the wool democrats in 2021 and onward.

To the extent both are promoting far right or at least seriously anti-left positions - Desantis can actually talk about those things. That's not policy, but it's useful. Trump will dumb then down, narrow the battle and then perhaps win it, but it's often a modest gain if any. Meanwhile, the enemy largely goes about its work undetected.

What makes Trump great is his ability to concisely message on big topics, but it's also a limitation on taking the fight to the left in a meaningful way.

DeSantis.
Anyone who thinks Trump is being irrational.
The swamp and media will never let him win again.
We have to move onto another man but carry the same mission.
