Yep, there is no version of “winning” in the ME. Take out one regime, another equally bad or worse steps in. But we never learn our lesson.

Operation Eagle Claw. The lessons learned from that disaster formed the backbone of my training and still influences a lot of training.

Not a lot is ever mentioned but Brand X CCTs were the airman who went in and laid out the landing zone and handled to air traffic control duties. The stories told to this day around the team house about the men involved in that mission would make your hair stand on end. Shrek McPhee type stuff.

I was a freshman in High School when this went down and I've never forgotten what they did to the US. While I don't wish for war, if we have to go in I hope we give them the proper payback for the hostages and the failed rescue attempt where they dragged the bodies of dead US Soldiers from that failed attempt

I’m sure they feel the same after all the Iranians we assassinated and regime changes forced on them.

Yes, and I’ve always hated them for it, but the time to blow their asses away was 1980-81. It’s been 45 years. If the Israels want to bomb them, so be it, let them fight. Hope they blow each other up.

But we do not need to fricking get involved.

Present and accounted for.

Was in high school when it happened - and that bumbling idiot Carter gave us one of the most demoralizing next several months only to be capped with that feeble rescue attempt.

Always suspected Ja-Biden learned how to leave billions in military assets behind in a Afghanistan after the example Carter gave him.

Our immigration problems too. The Monroe Doctrine enforcement in Central and South America is why we have all these people coming through the Darien Gap, Central America, and Mexico to seek asylum or just sneak in illegally. We sanction countries because they have tyrants who don't care about their people and surprisingly they don't care about their people, let them suffer, and they want a way out.

Um, didn't we overthrow a forward-thinking secular guy (Mosaddegh)?

We did it to help out the British and as a check on the Russians. The British had administrative control of the oilfield since the beginning. Mossadegh threatened the British control of the oil monopoly in Mesopotamia and Western Persia.

He said we should nuke those camal humpers right now.

Out loud and with great prejudice.

You are right, but the underlying theme is still there. We “the west” wanted their shite for ourselves so we destroyed them.

I was in the Eleventh grade. I was already talking to an Army recruiter about enlisting, after Operation Eagle Claw failed my mind was made up. Iran got it coming.

Everyday before school we would eat breakfast and listen to the radio.
Every morning …every single day they would count the days that the Americans had been held hostage. It went on forever.
