What's Your Thoughts on "Anti-Mask" Laws?

The House is considering a bill as we speak that would make mask wearing in public (for protesting, rioting, etc.) a federal offense. Vice wrote a piece complaining about it here: LINK
Many states passed these laws during Civil Rights era in order to tamp down on the Klan. However, to my understanding, some states never passed such laws and other states eventually had courts strike them down. According to this website, 11 states currently have mask laws on the books (this doesn't count city or local ordinances). Alabama is not included on that list, even though the NYT says Bama has had a law on the books since the 1940's (to combat the Klan). I don't know which is true.
The Klan is pretty much dead (and the members they have are about 50% Federal agents). ANTIFA is the problem these days and they routinely wear masks, carry weapons, etc. It seems the Police rarely do anything about it.
Do you support a federal law on this?

Seems really totalitarian.

Some SJW tranny will file a suit saying it’s against their rights.

I’m for it.
If these little shits think their employer might see them acting a fool, they will probably opt for staying at their apartment and playing video games.
The upside to the masks is that it lets the good guys know who to hit.

That "logic" may play with an individual, but falls apart for a mob.

You think police in places like Berkeley or Portland would actually enforce it?

Masks should be banned, including burqas. Faces should be visible in public for being able to recognize and point out people to the police and to discourage a lot of these criminals. You cannot grant the ability for anonymous people to commit crimes and have an avenue of escape. No different than requiring plain view license plates on cars

I don’t have an issue with the proposed law but they will have trouble with the 1st Amendment. People will claim freedom of expression.
But more seriously, freedom of religion will be challenged over burkas and whatnot.

Not to take a side one way or the other with the comment... But back in the day when the Klan mobilized in masks, it meant trouble. So laws were passed to prevent them from wearing masks, disguising their identity.
And today, when ANTIFAGS mobilize, they don masks and they always cause trouble. So what's the difference?

The problem isn't that we can't see faces. The problem is the cocksucking police chiefs won't have their men stop gratuitous violence when it happens in front of them. One of the most obvious actions that they could possibly take, and they drop the ball. In some cases, they've seemingly taken steps to encourage a physical altercation between groups.
Cities are damaged, burned and looted while these clowns stand around. Let a mother fricker get obnoxious outside of a bar though. Then you see full scale "riot control" as 6 cops beat on some dude's head.
It would take one or two instances of cops pounding the head of some violent destructive shitbag to send the message that needs to be sent. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like many are interested in protecting people and their property when it actually needs protection.

I'm okay with it except on Halloween and if you are not participating in a demonstration.
Have fun in the burka all you want as long as you are not assaulting someone.

I don't buy it. Try walking into your local 711 at 1 AM with a mask on and try telling the clerk "first amendment, bro." Let's see how long you remain alive or not in prison.

No.
It’s entirely too intrusive and authoritarian.
Did small government, weak federal government being the ideal die with Trump’s election?
People here would be fricking LIVID if Obama was pushing this.

Legally define a demonstration and participation
Can I wear a mask within 500 feet of a demonstration and just stand there watching? Am I participating?

So you'd be cool with the Klan marching around town wearing masks? You'd be cool with Nazi's wearing Hitler masks, walking around destroying property and getting in fights, etc?
We have to be consistent here.

that law probably would've thwarted that crowd of terrorists in guy fawkes masks at the end of v for vendetta

I am fine with it as long as it is still used against the Klan. Antifa and Anarchists do more harm than good for the Left.

I hate Antifa as much as the next guy, but I'm not about to propose another federal law to solve this problem. Not in Article 1, Section 8.
