There is a lingering reputation that the USA has of producing hard working, resilient citizens. The current "labor shortage" is being blamed on "migration", competition, and "low" wages (by the left).

I think the right, as usual, sees the actual problem, which is this government encouraging laziness with their large unemployment/covid "benefits."

quote:

They are stapling a job application to the sack of food that every single person coming through the drive-thru gets and you go:'That's what it's come to,'" Jordan said. "It has become, to me, sort of the symbol of the job market that we live in here - there's so much competition."

can someone explain how stapling an application to every bag is a sign of competition? seems like a sign of desperation that they'll hire anyone halfway qualified and driven.

regardless. a lazy populous will destroy this country just as fast as the other 30 things they're trying. the ONLY thing that makes us exceptional is our GDP. Their are a bunch of things that contribute to that (like freedom) but that goes away and we're screwed.

sorry for yahoo link

The only thing Romney was correct about was his 47% comments. Probably closer to 50% now.

If they raised the pay and gave good benefits there wouldn't be a shortage.

I'm conservative as they come but it's a joke that wages haven't kept up with inflation. If you can't find anyone to work for you because of unemployment, then pay more than unemployment.

You are a RINO imho, not a conservative, if you can’t see that the Federal government paying people to stay home (as opposed to working) created this issue. The wages are reflective of the skill set associated with this type of job. If you are past the age of 25, and relying on fast food service as a career choice, then you have made a ton of choices in your life that have led to your circumstances. No offense, you may be a “Cassidy” conservative, but what you posted is not realistic unless you want to. see $10 burgers at McDonald’s.

Minimum wage jobs are for kids mostly and not a thing to consider when talking about job market of the economy . You want a good paying job , earn it . Companies aren’t responsible for laziness incompetent employees that feel they are entitled to high paying jobs . The shitt we are going through is contrived manipulation by a evil group of “ leadership “

Never said it didn’t cause the issue. But it’s the issue now and unless businesses want to continue to have labor shortages, they better adapt.

Yet that wasn’t an issue pre-covid. Wages were lower then and employment was near full.

What’s happening now is people are using the covid crisis to exploit government handouts. They don’t work because they don’t have to. Yet

There are almost 11 million job openings right now.

There are roughly 8.5 million people seeking work.

Do that math

I’m lucky that I have a good education and a good paying job. However, if I had to take a job making minimum wage or even have 2 jobs to just survive, I would take the alternative of taking unemployment, making more sitting at home not working myself to death. Any sane person with those choices would rather not work.

I’m not opposed to raising minimum wage but that statement is made in a vacuum. Stop unemployment pay and see the difference.

I’m not saying that a single working mom should be expecting a living wage at Whataburger, but that statement is made in a vacuum like a person should expect a living wage their first month at Whataburger and that’s just ridiculous.

Exactly. Once unemployment is gone they will be forced to. But we don’t know when that will happen. And waiting it out is a poor business decision if you truly need the workers

Dominos here was doing that before covid even became a thing. Order a pizza, the pizza box would always have an application taped to the top, wanting to hire drivers.

Expecting a living wage is ridiculous? Why?

When you’re collecting unemployment, you are required to seek employment.

He didn’t say that. Read when he said very slowly and then adjust your response.

It is a sign that people are getting paid more NOT to work than they do to work a McJob.

Remember how when W’s economic growth was all “McJobs”? Biden’s recovery can’t even fill those jobs at about twice the minimum wage.

You left out the part where you busted your arse, made sacrifices and improved your situation with determination to achieve it all.

Expecting a living wage for a low skill job that teenagers can excel at is ridiculous. Yes.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not an uncompassionate man. I’m way more soft on welfare than most of this board (I support free trade school and accumulating unemployment based on your ability to stay employed,) but expecting to feed a family at an entry level fast food job is obtuse.
