This.
We need to get back to work or starve.

News flash...they can’t afford to do so without raising prices. That leads to fewer customers.
So your plan is for businesses lacking staff to pay more for staff, and subsequently go out of business...to stay in business.

This morning I drove by the chick fil a drive through line and it was literally 300' long and side x side (2 lanes). Instead I went to the whataburger literally 200 yards away which had only 6-7 cars in the drive through line.
I'm almost certain that CFA served their roughly 50 cars before I got my BOB at Whata (50 vs 7). Also, the Whataburger employees acted like I was lucky to get served. The time from when I pulled into the line until I got food was 23 minutes.

I'm a conservative because, at one time, when I was young, I thought of myself as liberal. But, then, after about the 10,oooth time I started a sentence with "they ought to......", I started asking myself "who the frick are these they that I keep referring to?"

Whataburger benefits aren’t bad for “burger flippers.”
Whataburger is paying well over minimum wage and sponsors an employee scholarship to Texas Tech in addition to 401k, etc.

What’s happening now is people are using the covid crisis to exploit government handouts
Not in Georgia. They ended that shite in April. And places all around are having trouble keeping workers. I think what's really happening is paranoid parents are keeping their teens/college kids at home to avoid covid and not letting them work. So it's killing the fast food/retail workforce. People over 21 don't want those jobs.

This is what I have noticed too. A lot of these businesses expected the workers to return once the additional benefits ended, but that hasn't been the case.
I think you may be right about parents not wanting their teens to work. Another thing is I bet you a bunch of employees don't want to work because they dont want to wear a fricking mask for an 8 hour shift. frick that. Last October I was at Waffle House and the waitress and grill master were talking about how much they fricking despised masks and having to wear them. When I was in Las Vegas I wanted to get a part time job at a casino but didn't because no way was I going to wear a damn mask.
I've even seen it starting to creep into white collar jobs. I started my most recent job almost 2 months ago and am still being contacted directly by companies that rejected me, or companies that I turned down, and recruiters in general. A company that turned me down 3 times in a 2 month span called me last week begging me to interview for an open position.

That's a great point! I've heard many people complain about it as well, especially at doctors offices. I was in Publix one night near close and at like 9:45 all the employees took their masks off and you could see the relief on their faces.
Plus jobs often had enough duties before and now you have to do hourly wipe downs and all that BS that just adds to the responsibilities, often at a low paying job.

Speaking of doctors offices…I see new administrative employees every time I went to them in the last year. One of my doctors openly complained about the turnover.

Whataburger pays $15 an hour in the town I live in. That's starting pay. What do they need to raise it to? $30 an hour?

I don't know where you live, but my Whataburger in Spring Branch, Texas, is just like CFA. Double lines, fast as shite service and they never frick up your order.
The Popeyes next door on the other hand...

How is it that this problem magically popped up in the wake of increased UE benefits during covid? Did competition really ramp up during a pandemic?
