I live next to a small river, can hunt turkey, deer, snare rabbit, fish. I can also Farm vegetables for food and grow marijuana and poppy for barter/medicine.

The problem is as other have stated: fending off unwanted people. My family/in-laws would most likely close ranks create a compound, and take turns in the tree’s etc on guard/kill duty.

Edit: also keep iodine pills in stock as well for fallout, and have a very large antibiotic, vitamin, and salt stockpile.

Break out one of my prepped packs and start heading to my parents to make sure they’re ok, to restock, and get ready to defend our property

There would definitely be people willing to colonize. You can tell their background by the amount of work they're willing to put in.

Lay low , bring family to camp with all freezer meat. Try not to let kids know what's happening.

Let’s face facts: the majority of us would probably be dead within 3 months. At least the soy boys and girls will go first.

Are we forgetting about candles and fire? I don't think it would be that bad. People would die, but eventually adjust.

The infrastructure suppling natural gas requires people to keep it going, those people will also be trying to survive, will abandon their jobs, and in a matter of tome the natural gas supply will fail. Also, do you really want to be one of the few houses with lights on, basically saying “there are people and supplies at this house, come kill us and take what we have”.

emp shield

I could manage no power if I can get to the camp. If we get a direct EMP and modern vehicles don’t work, then I’m toast stuck in suburbia with a young family.

Try link above if you want to protect your car(no direct experience but looks interesting). There is little evidence of what would actually happen with an emp especially to cars (a car is somewhat of a faraday cage already), but I never disagree with erring on the safe side.

I would second the mention of refrigeration. Invest in a dometic (for example) "truck" cooler (these have real compressors so you can deep freeze if desired). They sip energy and can basically run indefinitely from a 100 watt solar panel and a 50ish AH battery. I've always used large panels + SLA/AGM batteries + a charge controller for off grin power but these "solar generators" have become a valid (if not better) alternative. You'll definitely pay more per watt but there are a lot of pros.

Build you a faraday cage to house the fridge, power tools, solar/battery stuff. You won't be able to fit this stuff in a typical trash can cage. I suggest using the rigid poly iso foam board with the reflective foil around a wood frame and perhaps another layer of foil on top of that (definitely foil tape your seams regardless.
Throw some good headlamps.. and an old laptop with morale boosting movies, pictures, survival esque videos on topics you aren't confident in(bbc player.. since you can't exactly download codecs later).. and a good fan. I might also suggest a driveway type remote motion detector/alarm for added security/notice.
And you'll be set in the electronics dept.

Tens of thousand of dollars on food, water, land, guns, ammo, and additional provisions and you'll be good to go for the whole ride.

We already know where we would go . It’s in the country with gardens , cows , generator and weapons . People in the country will colonize easy because they have mordd ex resources. People in the city will be killing each other to eat .
