Load up our SUV with food and clothes and head to my brothers ranch. Plenty of deer to keep us alive a long time. He's got lots of guns.
Hopefully we can find a way to start a garden.

Some people might survive by doing this; however, even a high % of them would not survive it.
Going to the deer camp and spending a week "roughing it" is very different than trying to live a life without any electricity, gasoline, medicine, refrigeration, and food other than deer meat.
Those folks who live in the country and have gardens and farms would be the best off in the short term. Even they will have issues long term.
Anyone with chronic health conditions that require medication to keep it in check, they are screwed.

I'd think twice, but if it's my kids or someone else, my kids are eating.

Caused by a worldwide EMP? If that's the case, everything electric is fried so it would take years to recover. So, really nothing you can do other than be one of the last to die if you happen to be a survivalist/hoarder.

quote:Your only chance to survive would be to get the frick out of any urban city, no matter how big or small. If you have family or a camp in BFE, get there ASAP. Even in small cities, people will be killing each other over canned beans.
Without electricity, a city or state would have no ability to clean or pump water to large urban populations. Millions would be dead in under a month.
Fresh water would be more valuable than gold.
Get to a farm in the country or camp in the woods where you can at least kill small game to survive and collect rainwater, and have firewood for cooking and boiling water. Untreated water from streams, lakes or ponds will kill you.

head to the woods.

Yeah, few would survive but most would be in desperate situations eventually. In my area over hunting will eventually eliminate most. We have at least 6 months, anything over that is a crapshoot.

Feral hogs once a curse would be a blessing. Almost no way to overhunt those bastards.

I actually bought a LifeSaver bottle, post-Katrina, for filtering/sterilizing water. Never had to use it but I'm wondering if the filter is still effective.

I read "The Union Creek Journal" as it was originally being published as an online blog. When I got home on a night of the week when a new episode was due, I could not do anything else until I had read the latest segment posted by Toby. It is now available online and as a Kindle. Here is a preview - don't fail to follow up as it really hits close to home on this scenario and is a great read.

We do not have them. Turkey's do not reproduce as quick it seems. I seem them all the time but not enough. Always scoping out future meals.

If it didn't have electronic ignition or fuel injection system, then it would probably still run.
