Goal Zero has some excellent small scale solar options. Generators, panels, battery packs from them are great stuff. The camp generator at the hunting cabin is top self for solar.

Yep. One of the books I read, almost all vehicles were useless except very old vehicles. But there was a lot of gasoline to be siphoned!

It must be set in the future after the green new deal.

That depends, if you are lost in the woods for a couple of days a life straw could be a lifesaver.

A life straw isn't going to last very long or provide enough water to live on long term. If the lights go out due to something other than EMP, then a 12v pump hooked up to a big water filter and driven by a solar panel is what you would want.

I’ve read several fiction novels lately about the collapse of society due to an EMP or other huge natural disasters that knocks out the power grid. In pretty much all scenarios, people become very desperate and violent. Hunger makes people do crazy shite.

He goes way down the rabbit hole with this one, but he leads you in the right direction.

I did the prep stuff 10 years ago and still have the supplies. I won't say all what I have but I have enough to keep a team of 8 hour rotations alive for quite a while. I dove hard into it when Obama took over, lost a bit of perishable foods that make it 10 years, but have plenty that are edible and stable for years to come. The other element I have in abundance will be more valuable than gold...., if you know what I mean.

Stay strong brothers !

You city slickers remember not to eat the squirrel brains. Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is no good. Samsies if you have to resort to Long Pork.

Yep, we quit eating them about 30 years ago.

Rejoice as many Democrats and Liberals who need assistance to live on this earth would not know what to do and would struggle mightily. It would be glorious to watch them eat each other and panic.

Not worried. Have generator hard wired into the house to auto start on loss of power.

And when there is no more fuel do you know how to build a dog treadmill to power it? (The wife won't let you tear into hers because the power may come back on again some day.)

My grandmother loved squirrel brain. Did not know it was not ok.

I know from being in too many 3rd world countries you don’t eat meat if you don see the fur/feathers/scales and that even rancid meat can be boiled enough to keep you alive.

Yep, I am not going to stock 1,000's of gallons of gas in fire country so I will have to live without power.

EMP attack on the US that takes down the electrical grid

There won't be any EMP pulse attack on the United States. That wouldn't be easy to accomplish and could be thwarted if attempted by a rogue state.

What's more likely is a disabling of the grid electronically from afar. China manufactures a large number of transformers and line fuses imported into the US. It's not impossible they could bollox the electrical operations of entire cities or regions with implanted malware.

I think a lot more people are prepared now then they were a year ago . If I were a republican and lived in the city I would get out into the country. More resources in the country .

Replacements for large transformers are in extremely short supply and even in today's world they are many months to years on back-order and most come from overseas.

If we were to get another Carrington Event, just hope that it strikes here just after sunset and China and Russia catch the frontal blast.
