Hmmm... so native Americans could and should demand the removal of all federal statues, and buildings for that matter. This may work out.

Native American aren't half the population of the city where these statues are displayed prominently on PUBLIC land.

Pretty hysterical that a bunch of people that don't even live here have this faux outrage over some stuff that effects them zero.

Awe. How cute. I didn't choose to live in your shithole city because of how dangerous it is. I was actually working in ghettos before Katrina in your proud city. Commuted there daily for years and did a lot of work to help "improve" it.

What, did your family used to vacation to the statue and pray in front of it?

Awe. How cute. Insult people who have actually put tons of time and money into your shitty economy.

The pro statue crowd is absolutely ridiculous, who gives a shite.

Oh, I really don't give a shite either. Tear the shite down. All of it. Erase and rewrite history in the manner you see fit.

What fricksticks like you fail to recognize with people like me is that I'm sitting over here literally laughing at you. Hard.

Like I said, tear down your statues and erase your history. IDGAF. Just like IDGAF about helping your community any longer either.

The OP has a very valid point. The reasons people are leaving your city and won't come back will never be solved by silly actions like this. But go ahead and mock people like us. Keep it up.

Well, that pretty much leaves New Orleans out. In 10 years you will still have a poor city wrought with crime and drugs. You will continue to have an African American population who as a whole will be no better off then as today. In fact, I'll wager to say that nothing much will change in 25 years except that St. Tammany Parish will hold the power and population edge for the area.

BTW....I'm all for tearing down the statues of Lee and Davis....they were not from New Orleans and did nothing for New Orleans. Beauregard on the other hand, was from here and came back here after the war. Plus his statue is BETTER than Lee's statue

No outrage here, just a little sad and very surprised that so many of you LA folk are able to turn your back on your own heritage.

I grew up in Nola. Never in my life did I meet a person upset about the statues. Lee Circle was well known as a geographical point but nobody gave much thought to the statue itself. The other statues, no one gave much thought to and most locals probably are only vaguely even aware of. It was never an issue until Mitch made it one.

I think what the pro-statue people get annoyed at is a little harder to define. It's not the statues themselves, it's more like: doesn't the city have more important things to worry about? Doesn't the black community have more important things to worry about? Isn't this just another way to remind blacks of past oppression so they never move on? Isn't this just another way to blame whitey?

And I think both sides want to "move on." One side things tearing down statues os moving on. The other side thinks tearing down statues is dwelling in the past.

Have they taken down Lee's statue yet?

Who are they replacing it with, DTL?

How many Blacks really care? Do they know accurate history - do they care? Your comment is racist in and of itself.

Exactly most people didn't care or even know they were there, so why do you all of a sudden care that they are coming down. Again, you don't care because these people didn't literally fight to enslave your ancestors.

What are we even talking about? I seem to have forgotten all history related to the topic at hand now that there isn't a monument.

Without that statue, im not even sure what's real anymore

How many need to care for you to not be upset by this statue coming down? Does it really matter how many care and have researched the history? Cause I'm going with it being a statue with shitty intent having gone into its construction and that being enough for me to not rage against the man to try to keep it.

If you are a protected group, being offended means the world must change to your satisfaction. If you are not a protected group, no shits are given if you are offended. It's going to be funny when the perpetually offended come after the fleur de lis, and the LSU Tigers. I doubt anyone will be buying the heritage argument then. Why should they?
