They've told us for years they only want to remove confederate statues. In the last week we've seen statues of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Grant come down. Give the left and inch and they will take a yard.

It's not about the flag, it's about Control

Principles, freedom of speech, the Constitution, American History.

I have zero love for the confederacy or the cause for which that flag flew. However, it does have value as an historical artifact. It's a part of the fabric of this nation--you have to take the good and the bad. It all contributed to the America we know today. Also, from a vexillology standpoint, it has tremendous value.

Only as much as the individual (from either side of the argument) looking at it wants to put into it. No more, no less.

Ask the people it bothers so much. They want to ban it. Their desire to use force... their burden to prove it's value.

What symbol can be used to represent the "I'M A REBEL" stand or rebel against he man, I am from the south? Never once did I view this flag as a representation of the desire to own another human being.

I had ancestors that fought under that flag so it has importance to me but I have relatives that fought under the American flag as well. Both are important to me.

The same value as any flag...none...nothing more than a piece of cloth unless you are an emotional twit and then you can get up to all sorts of silliness over a piece of cloth...

I don't get the human need for a flag. It seems to be a common theme amongst all folks that they need a banner but it is just silliness.

Yet, unfortunately, that is the cause over which it flew. As expressed by several seceding states themselves.

I say "unfortunately," because devoid of all connotations and history, I find the flag extremely aesthetically pleasing. It's a terrific design. Just an unfortunate history attached to it. I don't find it necessary to go around trying to tear down every one I see, though.

Historically it holds tremendous value but after it was used as a racial standard of oppression in the 1950-early 1960's and it was and should only be shown on specific occasions and for historical perspective.

If I had been King in 1990 I would have put a 50 year moritorium on its display until everyone who had a hand in using it as a measure of oppression would have passed.

Had that happened in twenty years it could have been brought back out and nobody would care plus you would have had 50 billion dollars of money freed up wasted in getting us where we are today still talking about a piece of cloth.

Furthermore, to me it's disrespectful to use curse words in every sentence of speech or song, to butcher the English language, after so many tax dollars have been spent to teach it, to wear a Malcolm X or CHE shirt, with pants hanging down below the arse, but I do not see them as a threats to my freedom or ability to succeed. They are merely stumbling blocks to those that use them.

I have a serious question

Why is kneeling during the national anthem wrong but flying the battle flag of the Confederacy, which fought the united states not wrong?

I do not think the Mississippi legislature will change it at this point. Weak leadership across the board. A change will not get 60 percent of the people, either.

Mississippi is about to suffer after a decade of great gains.

Because the Confederate battle flag was just the beginning, not the end. You're being willfully obtuse if you can't understand this.

What value does the Washington Monument have? The Jefferson Memorial? Mount Rushmore? Confederate cemeteries? Union cemeteries? Slave cemeteries? Any cemeteries?
