I grew up there. I remember as a kid in the 70s hearing the adults (all blue collar guys who worked for Coors) talking about how the libs from Cali were going to ruin the state.

They have separate Po Po for the mentally ill
Folks show up on the system and they send special unit to deal with mental health. No guns, no badges, and lots of less crazy situations where somebody dies.
I think folks should have the right to own guns but mental health and poor social skills do not mix with firearms. Been hunting and fishing since I was a kid but we had the pre Rainbow Boy Scouts and adults who taught us, not social media and shoot em up video games.

in 2004, the anti-gay marriage amendment passed. Some VERY rich homosexual people such as Tim Gill got furious. They got together with sympathetic techies, paid for the best political consultants, and revolutionized how political campaigns worked with Colorado as their lab.
They realized instead of dropping a million on a Governor's race, they could drop half a million on legislative races and win a bunch of seats, capturing the legislature, which they did.
They even funded local versions of Media Matters that smeared Republican politicos, who never knew what hit them. This was the German Army practicing blitzkrieg with all its new toys with the same results.
After getting their arse kicked in Colorado and later Iowa, the GOP finally started figuring things out and fighting back. Both in 16 and 24, Trump was way ahead of them on technology although in 2012, the Romney campaign as well as Republicans, were completely clueless and incompetent when it came to tech.
