what should the tax rate be realistically?

Democrats always say they are not high enough. Republicans always promise to cut them but usually don't or cut just a small amount. I always hear the left say it used to be like 90 percent and the economy was great and had a strong middle class until Reagans cuts which led to inequality. Was it really 90 percent? that just seems like communism.

I would rather a flat National sales tax. 12-15% with groceries exempt. I keep my check and pay taxes if I choose to spend it. Also gets rid of allot of irs bloat further reducing gov expenditure. Tyrone the drug dealer is now paying taxes on those sweet rims and skittles paint job. Rich people pay more as they buy more expensive shite.

Figure out how much we need to spend, then figure out what the rate needs to be to collect that amount.
Use zero budget accounting in order to determine that amount.
That's the only way this works.
Right now, there is no connection between tax revenue and what we spend. None.

Fed should be forced to yearly audit like every other decent sized company

Flat tax on everything purchased ... would capture black market and non-American cash. Less taxes that upstanding citizens need to pay.
Also, if you don't want to pay taxes, live in the woods and buy nothing.

Flat tax normally calls for 15-18 percent. No deductions. Get rid of IRS. That's to keep spending same as now. I prefer lowering what we're spending now.

So do away with property tax?
Fine with me

Zero.
Think about how much government must suck if they need to forcibly take money away from us in order for it to exist in the first place.

quote:No. I'd happily take a return to 90% rates with the same allowances, deductions, and expensible items of that time. In a heartbeat.
Was it really 90 percent?

quote:Exactly. And with 43% of the population holding NO tax liability... it's even worse. Everyone should have to contribute.

We should pay as we spend. Everyone clamors to fight climate change are are for hoards of illegals scurrying across the border? - here's your bill.
Don't want to pay that? - do something about the green new deal BS and the border.
If we connected paying directly to spending, I think we'd be pleased by what happened.
