GOP General Election voters? SFP is correct.

No he isn’t. The vast majority of those newly elected were voted for based on a platform of anti establishment rhetoric. That they’ve now shifted their support to McCarthy upon reaching DC isn’t a result of what their constituents want.

IMO, you are failing to distinguish the primary voter from the GE voter.

Just so I’m clear, you’re contending that’s generally a commensurate reflection of the Republican electorate?

One of the dumber claims I’ve seen him make, and he’s been on quite a streak lately.

Tell us how this is a meaningful distinction in HOUSE races.

It really isn't, but I will let you try I suppose.

Definitely more than 50%

This, but it's a guess. Truth is, most times rank and file simply do not get a chance to vote for those types of candidates and we're forced to hold our noses and vote for the lesser of two evils.

How so? In most cases, the primary winner is also the GE winner.

I would guess maybe 25% of the party. Maybe 35%.

Reference is to GOP voters in GENERAL election. Percentage is higher among primary voters

Probably this. I’ve voted against my US rep in the primaries the last 3 times.

His democrat opponents were MJ Hegar, a 20 year old communist, and unopposed in 2022.

Hes not my pick but he’s preferable to the general alternative. He’s voting for KM every time.

How much if greater?

It’s probably closer to half if not more. The GOP electorate is done with the establishment but the GOPe controls the purses and the levers of power so their representation remains outsized. It’s why Trump and DeSantis dominate the establishment candidates in every single poll.

8% want McCarthy, according to a poll on Michael Knowles youtube. Dude does a show with Ted Cruz - he's not exactly a crusader for anti-swamp.

I would say over 90% of those voters that do vote R or would consider voting R, do not want McCarthy.

Not even sure why people ask about this - congressional Republicans have been voting against the will of their constituents for a long time now. Their votes on Speaker do not represent the voters, at all.

Does the phrase "Silent Majority" ring a bell?

Knowles followers are probably a similar make up of this board even if the PT likes to think they’re above Daily Wire.

Not exactly a good sampling of the Republican base.

DeSantis

I'm glad to see someone finally toss his name into this discussion. It's weird how little I've seen it, as much as he's been talked about leading up to this.

There's not much about his campaigning or public pronouncements that seems philosophically aligned with this McCarthy type republicanism.

Where's the dark horse possible presidential candidate alternative we need to all be looking for if this is so popular amongst the electorate?

Magnanimous of you.

If you do not understand that the average voter in a GOP primary is far to the right of the average GOP voter in the general election, nothing I say can bring you any clarity.

The natural skew of House districts makes that distinction not as meaningful as you pretend it to be.

Your point may hold more true for Senate elections, but it's not significantly so for House districts.

i agree that people do want a return to normalcy, and that your average GOP voter probably thinks that McCarthy will represent that (or at worse wont prevent that).

the problem is that people dont understand what "normalcy" actual is, which is a slowly descending spiral into hardcore leftism.

I agree that it is a bigger factor in Senate than House races. Maybe two or 3 to 1 in a House race, versus four or 5 to 1 in a Senate race, as hypothetical examples.
