Catholicism is like the fake Christianity. It is what it is. It's a fake way to claim you have morals.

a couple of things here

1- many, many protestant faith use ashes and cross sign on Ash Wednesday that is not only Catholic
2 - I would be a vast majority of these are not catholic
3 - Jesus started the Catholic Church giving leadership to Peter - 1st Pope
4- I was discussing this is the first I have seen it in the media. I have been to Ash Wednesday services for years but never seen it in the media so much

Since when?

Italian catholics have been doing it a very long time

quote:

Sprinkling ashes on the crown of the head recalls the biblical method of putting on sackcloth and ashes as a sign of penance: “Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth upon their heads” (Neh 9:1). The American method of putting ashes on the forehead, usually in the sign of the cross, allows the ashes to be visible to others so that the communal, penitential nature of the day might be more readily visible.

People on here do realize that there are Protestant denominations that do ashes on their foreheads on Ash Wednesday, too...right?

And yes Mathew’s gospel is and was a Dichotomy.

Not really in the context of Ash Wednesday. Receiving ashes on the forehead and wearing them is not a fast (although we are to fast on Ash Wednesday and every Friday during Lent).

What Jesus warns about in Matthew is don’t take the “Woe is me! I’m fasting!” route. Don’t seek sympathy for something you’re doing to glorify God. Bearing ashes on the forehead is not that. It is symbol and reminder that we are but dead sinners without our Lord Jesus Christ. Ashes on the forehead is not far from wearing a cross or medallion around your neck. It’s just a little more visible and only happens once a year so people notice it.

Also originally it was just sprinkled on the head so it was not a visible sign.

Wrong.

Depends on the priest.

Go back to your basement

TBoy, did you read my message? I said I know it was Ash Wednesday but yesterday was the 1st time I have really seen media figures with it on their head.

Try to keep up and comprehend, yes dummy I know it was Ash Wednesday but seemed like many media figures/political figures had it on their head when that hasn't been the normal in the past

Yet another outward seal that God's promise applies to us.

Protestants have no clue about outward signs since they are like Islam and would see this as idolatry.

Heaven forbid you go to church more than you have to. Don’t go out of your way for the guy who died on the cross. It’s not like he went out of the way for you, right? We’re only talking eternal life here, so no big deal.

You quite obviously don't know about Foo, do you?

Not sure why this is considered a bad thing? Hollywood is a cesspool of depravity. Being openly Christian/Catholic may encourage others to be free to do the same and may bring others to Christ.

He could run (write?) circles around every other single member of this forum. Easily. Our Catholic friends won't agree with him (and that makes for quite interesting threads)... and as a Baptist, I don't at times, but he knows of what he writes. If that makes sense.

Or the sacraments, or liturgy, or beauty as an element of worship.

Although I'm sure some of their Sunday morning powerpoints occasionally have pretty pictures.
