What is the point in banning/confiscating ar-15s, but not shotguns?

A shotgun can arguably do far more damage in less time, depending on circumstances.

Especially in a setting like a crowded classroom or restaurant, etc

can do a lot of damage but there's a reason soldiers are armed with automatic and semiautomatic rifles.

Their strategy is to ban rifles, which are the weapon best suited for defense against an oppressive government. Once that happens and the firearm homicide and suicide rates remain unchanged (and they KNOW they will, because rifles of any type only comprise 400 murders in total each year), then they will go after handguns, leaving the civilian population with bolt action rifles and shotguns. At that point any potential resistance will have been effectively neutered.

It's kind of like eating a bicycle. You have to start somewhere.

And there’s a reason why germany wanted shotguns banned from use in warfare when they were using poison gas, machine guns, tanks, and artillery.

it's not about homicide and suicide. it's about mass shootings

It’s not about logic, it’s about emotion.

Thanks for admitting that

At least you admit it. This has nothing to do with reducing deaths.

Go to a gun range and fire a hundred rounds from an AR-15. Then try that with a shotgun.

I provided a link to the House bill in that other thread. I just scanned it, but it looks like they want to come after everything that you do not have to manually put another round in the chamber. The list may exempt some current models that would fall into that category, but that's where they want to go.

most people aren't scared of drug trade gun violence in known bad parts of their cities. Those deaths come like a drip, drip. One or two every week in most big cities and it's people that mostly have it coming by being poor.

they don't want to get mowed down in school or at the mall, etc.

Handguns are used in mass shootings more than any other type of weapon by a wide margin. Semi-auto rifles kill fewer people annually than bathtubs.

Going after rifles means you’re either completely ignorant and irrational, or you simply want to render the populace defenseless against an oppressive regime. Either way, GFY.

Then they should look at the math and quit wetting their pants over scary guns when a host of other things that are far more likely to kill them than a mass shooter.

If you want to take away my private property and restrict my rights, I sure as hell hope you have a better argument than your emotions.
