Even before BLM, police and citizen tension was high.

Is the job dead or in decline?

People take crime in their own hands?

I know some that had degrees and went to work in federal law enforcement. There’s also a pyramid of upper positions that make pretty decent money like detective, lieutenant, etc all the way up to chief of police.

I think it will be robots, not sure if that's good or terrible but we'll pribably find out in the next 20-30 years

You still have to start out as a beat cop, though, don't you?

Saw today where police recruits here in KC will now start at 65,000. Not sure I would want it, but at least it is getting competitive.

Well, I don’t think AI is taking it over as quickly as other jobs, so there is that.

The existence of small departments needs to die a harsh death. It's completely crazy that Americans accept being ordered around by halfwits barely qualified to work at the lowest rungs of Home Depot.

I'm not sure what level should be the lowest level of policiing but wherever that level is, it needs to be at a point where you're not handing that kind of power to borderline McDonald's shift managers.

Due to the BLM stuff and the general decline of society, the quality of policing is on a downward trajectory. Unfortunately, if you want good policing in the future, it's going to require a bribe. By "bribe" I mean that to attract the best applicants, cities and counties are going to have to pony-up on salaries. My agency is starting 21 year old recruits at $75K just to go to the academy. 5-year top-out without rank is 6-figures. We're still not getting applicants. My son wants to be like me and I'm afraid that he might want to eventually go into police work, but I'll try my best to discourage it. It's not the same job that it was when I started in the 90's.

You may be right, but Abbott, my Sheriff, and my Chief will tell them to get fricked.

AI is going to make everything just as shitty as DEI based on how my phone constantly decides to change "in" to "on" (and vice versa) in the most obviously wrong places.

I was just in Louisiana.
No No No. We're sure you meant that you were just on Louisiana. You're welcome.

Oof, that video made my toes hurt.
I've been in a few accidents involving air time and automotive gyroscopic hijinks.
