Northern S.E. Alaska.
I think I like that idea. It looks like a location were protein is easily obtainable.

Yep, and difficult for people to get to. Fish and game are plentiful.

The rural parts of Florida would be pretty good. There is plenty of fresh water, wild life and great fishing. Fruits and vegetables are also abundant. Your obvious threat would be humans which is why I have fire power and plenty of ammo and three ballistic vests for my family.
Traveling would be impossible due to population. I would think that travel by boat would be the best way to go.

Around here? Root vegetables and potatoes grow well, wheat or rice don't. In the interior of the State you can grow wheat.

I do believe the fish will already be filled with radiation spilling from Fukishima (sp?). Its supposed to arrive on the west coast next year...

The nation is filled with far too many idiots which was grossly made evident during the fine days of Katrina in NOLA. The stolen loot from all of the Wal Marts in the world won't feed you one meal unless you are smart enough to go for the food instead of the TV's and other electronic blings.

I tend to be more concerned about the climate of the south, and especially places like Florida and Louisiana, when services were cut, population, and disease.
I'd prefer a move well northward, and for quite a few reasons, but mostly because of preserving in the immediate before one could begin planting and harvesting and get their system in place. That would be a pretty big concern in hot humid climates where you would have to live hand to mouth for a while living off of fish, and small game you killed that day, and things like poke salad, and then there's the petri dish that are these climates when it comes to bacteria and diseases. I think that would be a big problem only exacerbated with a whole lot more people trying to survive and live off the land than in times past, and the ignorance that would be in place to live like that these days and indefinitely.
Now, the plusses would clearly be the abundance of wildlife and especially fish, the lower water table if you could find a way to tap into it for your water supply, and access to the gulf. It's just that the negatives are a bigger concern as far as I can see than those positives. Truth be known, I think I'd pick Alaska if I could make it anywhere, and it would still be very brutal and risky, but I think the climate is more conducive to what I see as the biggest concern of all when it comes to food. Water is abundant, and so are sources for food, and you live on top of a virtual refrigerator where you could dig only a few feet down and reach areas that would maintain temps suitable to all this year round, and you could quite easily get way in the middle of nowhere away from the other humans who would see anyone with food as prey. Places like Utah, Colorado, and Idaho are also good answers IMO. Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Virginia also have advantages, except when it comes to populations and especially the Northeast evacuating and taking it over to survive. Closer to home, the more mountainous regions of Arkansas might be a consideration.
Regardless though, I don't think any of us have a real appreciation of just how difficult it would be to make it long term on our own, especially today, and without the knowledge of times past, but certainly without having a system already set in place to wether the storm. The best thing you could do is have lots of non perishable provisions for the immediate future, and then immediately begin to get that sustainable system in place to provide for yourself, and fly very very low on the radar so nobody knew you were even there, or it would be a real hike to get to you to take your shite.

Strategic Relocation by Joel Skousen. I don't agree with his reason for the collapse, but he gives great information on where you want, and don't want to be when TSHTF.

I'd also like to add this. The most valuable item you could possibly possess in such a scenario that would be more important than precious metals, oil, or even food itself really would be salt, and lots of it. It was the fossil fuel of its day. Wars were fought over it, and so would they be by people themselves if civilization experienced a full all out meltdown.

At the bottom of the pile.
Has anyone ever seen or read any thing in any post-apocalyptic movie or novel that would make you want to survive the event in question? frick that. Some folks are too dammed interested in assuring their lives to actually live their lives. This obsession with surviving is comical. All the prepping in the world is not going to mean a fricking thing because the world is not coming to an end, the economy is not collapsing, and there are no Zombies. The world will survive a black family living in the Whitehouse. I know it seems like the end of civilization but it ain't....and when it is a brown person or a woman or, god forbid, the most unthinkable thing in the world....an open ATHEIST residing in the whitehouse the shock of it not being a middle aged white man will not be so intense.

I'm dead serious when I say I don't even really concern myself with Obama necessarily here. There are many more variables in place than Obama when it comes to a meltdown. I'll list a few.
1) Solar Storm takes out our electric grid
2) Disease and/or drought cripples our food supply
3) War on our soil with a series of EMP's take out the grid.
4) Pandemic outbreak makes cities a living nightmare.
The first two are not only likely to happen at some point, but almost certain to happen one day, and have in the past, recently even.
We've been living with and dependent upon electricity, fossil fuels, computers, satellites, and technology surround it for a very minuscule amount of time relative to man's existence on this planet. How dependent are we? Think about it, and you'll find that without these things man would deteriorate into chaos within days and weeks. We don't live in a safe little bubble. We live on a little blue planet in a very large and violent universe, and one we know relatively very little about, yet have chosen to hinge everything on our most recent inventions and energy that could by a simple act of nature bring us back to the Stone Age overnight.
It's not as much Obama, but yes, it could be too.

Dont you live in North LA? No bigger time warp in the universe.
Shreveport is far more modern than New Iberia. I brought my wife down there when we first got married. Wanted her to meet the relatives. We were walking into a small grocery store that I frequented as a youngster.
An older man was walking out. He looked at my wife and stopped. "Miss, you're not from New Iberia are you?"
Her: "No, how did you know?"
Him: "You're dressed nice."

If you want to off yourself if civilization ends, then by all means, be my guest.
If it ever happens, I want to live. No matter what.

$17T and counting. our government, regardless of party affiliation (as it really ramped up 2000-2008), is off the rails
this has everything to do with legit fears over dollars and cents and nothing to do with race, sex, religion, or political ideology
my life is going to almost assuredly take a step back regardless. the worst case scenario is government collapse, which could lead to societal collapse. what is wrong with having a plan?
