Nobody was stopping Obama in 2008. He was electric and a rock star and we just had 8 years of GOP leadership and it's hard to get 12.

But saying Paul did stop him in 2008, for the purposes of my hypothetical.

I think he would have been treated exactly like Trump because the establishment would have viewed him as an outsider, and a threat to their grift.

Yes things would be drastically different.

Internationally, we'd have withdrawn from Iraq/Afghanistan quicker, so our debt would be trillions less for that reason alone.

I think that he would have also been sort of a Carter-esque ineffective leader b/c other than things he could directly control (like the military), his policies would not be supported by the big government types in DC.

I think his promotion of reducing government would also have sped up the woke/PC culture b/c it would be seen as an attack.

I think he'd win symbolic DEM support for the military withdrawals but it would be GOP voter suicide and he'd get demolished in 2012. May not even get the GOP nom.

Honestly I think Paul would have been forced to get into line , smeared to oblivion, or assassinated. Unfortunately I think we the US are on a path that no individual politician even president can derail.

I think he would work hard to roll back Patriot Act and domestic surveillance.

Would he be successful?

Would the intel agencies and their allies in the executive and legislative branches defeat him?

No obamacare. Possibly lower taxes. Not much difference overall. There would still be Congress to hurdle.

This was your opener, but then you proceeded to argue against it.

People on this board voted for Mike Huckabee and Rick fricking Santorum over Ron Paul. We deserve everything that is coming.

Obama was a fictional media and Hollywood character played by a relatively unknown halfrican-American actor.

No.

Trump couldn't get things the GOP allegedly supported passed and Paul would be wanting stuff the GOP didn't even want

When Ron Paul ran the masks weren't all off yet. No one dared too think that the GOP were really democrats with an R.

If Ron Paul's debate was shown today he would be elected. But back when he looked like a loon and people were dumbasses in Bushie neocon world still.

Bottom line the powers that be would have never ALLOWED Ron Paul the Presidency-If he got in by pure luck. They would assign him a Pence (with a fly on his head) and make every moment an impeachable moment and spy on him.

i e.....what they did to Trump.

We needed Pat Buchanan after Reagan.

As the GOP forced Reagan to take GHWB, they would have forced Paul to take Robert Gates or someone like him.

Paul was a little different.
He would not compromise.

But I think you would have seen a lot of his vetos overridden by GOP and Democrats. If you remember, the GOP despised Paul even more than Trump.

Still, he would be exactly what we would need. Obstructing the deep state every step of the way.
