In a post on Telegram, Witzke reported that her bank account had been shut down, leaving her stranded in Florida.

quote:

“Wells Fargo has shut down my bank account, taking all of my money and leaving me with a zero balance,” wrote Witzke.

“When I called Wells Fargo told me that it was a ‘business decision’ and that they have the right to close my account at any time.

She was not the only one:

quote:

Pete D’Abrosca, a conservative activist and contributor to American Greatness, reported that his Wells Fargo savings account had been shut down — on the same day as Witzke’s.

Leaving them with a $0 balance?? What kind of nonsense is that?

This seems like a really odd move from a bank that absolutely does NOT need bad press.

Should be a lawsuit, just like the baker’s suit. I don’t see a religious angle, here…

We’re going to have to go to war with these people at some point. There’s just no avoiding it

I think Wells Fargo is about to go bankrupt and are snagging accounts to try to up their balance sheets or "liquidity".

They cannot just disappear a customer's money.
Depending on the amount and what state that should be anything from petty theft to grand larceny.

I’ve seen no proof this is true, but it’s where we are headed regardless.

It’s a short leap from Facebook banning you for language to Verizon banning you for language on your own phone.

It’s a short leap from PayPal banning you for your politics to Wells Fargo or Capital One banning you for your politics.

Why can’t Comcast or Entergy cut off your service if they don’t agree with your politics?

Start your own power company if you disagree.

They close the account(s) and mail the customer a check for the funds. It’s bullshite, but their right. I pray that everyone with an account of any kind at WF moves their business elsewhere. frick Wells Fargo

I'm going to disagree. There are certain things in this nation that we have to in order to survive.

One of those things is the ability to bank.

If you are not allowed a bank, and this is not the first case of this nor the first company, how can one make it in a modern world.

It's not their right to deprive a US Citizen of the ability to trade in the US.

I think we're not getting the full story. The account was probably ordered to be impounded by the IRS for nonpayment of taxes.

Lots of principled conservatives and libertarians would agree. Mean while also turn a blind eye to the state forcing Christian baker to make a rainbow penis cake against their will, and say "stay out of the culture wars, we need to focus on corporate tax cuts!"

Well they did it to a Republican so it will get either great press or no press at all.
