Hurricane Florence has drenched eastern North Carolina with more than 30 inches of rain, an all-time record for the state. Last year, Hurricane Harvey stalled over Houston and dumped more than 60 inches of rain, an all-time record for the whole country. Also last year, Hurricane Maria ravaged the island of Puerto Rico and caused, according to an independent study, nearly 3,000 deaths.

Welcome to the new normal.

Tropical cyclones are nothing new, of course. But climate scientists say that global warming should make such storms wetter, slower and more intense — which is exactly what seems to be happening. And if we fail to act, these kinds of devastating weather events will likely become even more frequent and more severe.

I'm old enough to remember when there wouldn't be any snow left to ski on.

Then the oceans were going to rise.

Please stop lying to me.

Thank you.

I'm all on board. How much of my tax dollars have to go to Pakistan to fix the problem?

Anyone citing "climate change" for these are ignorant about the conditions that set them up. No reason to go further on that piece of crap.

LMAO, so the first step is we need to expand the flood plains and force people to move off of the coasts and destroy all of the structures within 30 miles of the coast...

Weather, is gonna weather...

Well Tejas knows there are millions of ignorant people he can play on. Not to mention all the solutions Tejas and his ilk come up with will be solved with someone else's money. So, this propaganda is easy to spread.

All time? Or just the last 200 of 4.6 billion years?

Literally nothing we could do even if the part before this is true.

Nature moves in cycles, and we haven't been monitoring things for long, relatively speaking. Acting like anybody knows what's going on in terms of hundreds or thousands of years is arrogant.

And here's the BS of such statements, there's little way to objectively measure this. Ten years ago we heard there would be more storms, like a doomsday movie, and that (thankfully) hasn't been observed. Now we hear the storms will be slightly enhanced.

Was Florence really that much worse than Hugo? Would Andrew have been "wetter" or Camille have shown more storm surge had these storms happened this year? There's little way to show this. The soundbite gets traction, but this is vague and fuzzy.

There was an article last week about how much less rain Florence would have dropped had it not been for climate change. There wasn't a single scientific bit of evidence in the article. It was all completely opinion. There is no scientific way to determine this.

OK. But you still don't get any more of my money. No additional taxes...no additional tarrifs....no additional "carbon credits".....NOT ONE MORE BLESSED DIME!!

The Earth's climate has been changing for 4.5 Billion years...coincidently, that corresponds with how long the Earth has been in existence. It's climate will CONTINUE to change for as long as it exist and no amount of my fricking tax money will change that!!!

Remember in the late 70's when we were supposed to experience the new ice age...?

Why does everyone freak out when we have a storm.. It's hurricane season, we had a hurricane hit... Go figure..
