We really do need to decentralize the federal government.

Obviously burn it all down, but if we can't do that then it might behoove us to spread the government across the entirety of the USA. Part of the reason the swamp is so deep is that once it got large enough to develop Northern Virginia and Maryland into a feeder population that's all that would ever be in those positions again. Like hires like. So you have a bureaucracy that's a huge circle jerk with delusions of grandeur about saving the world from the nazis.

Move it to all the state capitals. Get people that think differently watching each other closely. Zoom and Teams is a proven way of handling anything they need face to face nowadays.

Couldn't hurt.

I think the size of the federal government could be reduced by 40-50% and decentralized and the US would be a stronger country....

Nothing is ever too late. World history is the story of how major civilizations and powers fall.

As for them changing, it has to be us changing it for them and without their permission.

You mean the way our Founders wrote it up?

The problem is that both sides think that they're always right, so they'll use their power to make national laws whenever they're in office. Nobody ever stops to think "is this, Constitutionally, a Federal issue?". I can guarantee that there are plenty on the right that would be in full support of a Federal abortion ban.

This isn't even that difficult a change. Would you like to keep your cushy job with the United States Federal Government Alphabet Agency you are currently employed by?
Cool, you're going to Bismarck North Dakota!

In this modern day of WMD's it would be a wise security measure to decentralize all of government in Washington including Congress.

Keep those swamp creatures closer to their bosses the tax paying voters.

This needs to happen. Move some of the federal agency HQs to literally the middle of the country, like Omaha or Wichita. There is no reason why, in 2023, everything needs to be in one small concentrated area on one side of the country where the local population is 99% on one side of the political spectrum.

Your subject title is all you needed to say, and the only response should be,

It used to be decentralized but believe it or not, the 17th amendment f'd it all up. Prior to senators being voted in by popular vote, they were appointed by state legislators and were held accountable for representing the state as a whole. Thus, they could easily put a stop to the federal government dictating policy or otherwise forcing their way down to the states. With popular vote, the large cities in each state pretty much elect the senators (read: more progressive than the state as a whole) and therefore the senators vote the wishes of these constituents -- and more importantly, no longer protect the power of the states. With no checks on its power, the federal government has become what it is and is pretty much unstoppable in terms of dictating down to us.

I have said for years that it should rotate around the country. 5 years in Nebraska, 5 in Alabama, 5 in Alaska, etc...

Split DC between Maryland and Virginia or give it all to Maryland and turn it into a Museum city.

Fed reps can telecommute and vote. Give them one staff member - a secretary - each and make the states pay for their own senators, reps and their one secretary.

Yes we know. Been discussed on here many times.

As for me one of the top priorities is spread federal DC court case around the nation. Why the jury pool for things done at the federal level (FBI malfeasance) and/or federal land (J6), picks out of the DC jury pool is just wrong. This people are for local city of DC courts not Federal matters. This needs to change if we are going to see change and politicians/bureaucrats held accountable.

Susidiarity is an amazing thing. It’s a principle that has held throughout history.

Naw those red states don't take much population to flip.

You want to send these agencies to states that are heavy DEM already to suck away all the DEMs from NOVA and Maryland and but both of those states back in play. You don't want to prop up a failing DEM state like California, either.

So like...New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Colorado, Washington. States that aren't going to flip from DEM anytime soon who can absorb that population without risk of it spreading out too far and turning neighbor states blue (like NOVA today)
