So if everything you believe is actually true you just provided an example of thy tarrifs are a bad idea
So let's review what you believe
1. They are the only plant that produces electrical steel (this is actually false but we'll get into that later)
2. They are incapable of producing the amount we need
So all a tax does is make these ever so critical materials more expensive and hurts the American consumer
Brilliant!
All of this. We are jumping into this way too fast and it is causing a clusterfrick in the industry.
And I can confirm DOMESTIC mills are already raising their prices as well, which anyone with a brain knew would happen.

Price increase is affordable in the current economic climate. Long-term result is far more important. China will blink, Trump will get NAFTA reworked, and domestic investment will increase.
It is a complicated situation to measure the impact this could have on downstream users but short-term: bad, long-term: awesome (IMO).

Where this is going to hurt is steel consuming companies which have international competition, especially Canadian competition that can offer similar lead times.

Motor laminate is not produced by only one plant. I know for a fact USS makes it. There isnt any difference in manufacturing it over normal flat roll used for autos and refrigerators. The difference lies in what alloys are added to give it the magnetic properties desired.

Simple yes or no. Is there more than 1 plant that produces electrical steel for LPT? It's that simple.

we can not produce enough to get the grid back up!
We only have the one steel plant in the US, period?

It would be tight if the grid went down

You need to research this a little more.
why the dumbass OP is talking about repairing the infrastructure steel of the grid, not the transformers and unshielded components that would be rendered useless in the event of an EMP, which I would wager is what you are referring to by your comment.

Electrical steel sheets are used as magnetic cores for everything from power generators to transformers to motors. Efficient electrical steels are essential to modern life.

jesus christ dude, even if that was the context its not noted in the original post and in the context of the dude i was posting too.
and in the event of an emp attack, which is what im assuming you idiots are concerned about....we will never have enough steel to repair all those destroyed....it would take years to repair the grid, there are millions, tens of millions of unshielded components...so again....
that would be the least of your worries.

We couldn't rebuild Europe or go to the moon or deport a ton of Mexicans under Eisenhower, either.
Oh, wait...
Damn boy, JFK would be so disappointed in you. That's your buddy's (Bill Clinton) hero.
