If our pledge to not do training excercises is tangible, why isn’t kim’s Pledge?
Because WE normally honor our commitments?

The commitment to not do the excercises is contingent on other things and the agreement signed states we have a right to start them up again if we want

I mean, set the bar for a 'summit' a little higher, just a smidge...

I read the posters on here Trump has solved the NOKO crisis and is so MAGA he is personally conducting inspections all the while touring new beach front properties for his Trump towers

Yeah that’s not how agreements work, otherwise you could buy a house and the decide not to pay, nice try though

So prisoners returned, destruction of a nuclear facility, and suspensions of testing is now known as nothing? Jesus. What do you define as a win for this summit?
I would call that the market price for a change in decades of US policy against unilateral meetings with the Norks.

They bought the meeting with those items. Trump threw-in the joint exercises as an uncompensated bonus. A “loss leader,” if you will. Maybe it will pay off. Time will tell.

Is a idiot does he not realize that these exercises are really not needed these days?

If shite ever hit the fan on the peninsula the USA will be doing the heavy lifting technically wise and we can practice that anywhere. The South Koreans would be supplying the bodies / foot soldiers.

Here's the transcript of the joint statement signed by President Trump and Kim Jong Un.

I think it is a great first step.

quote:

Joint Statement of President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea at the Singapore Summit

President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a first, historic summit in Singapore on June 12, 2018.

President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un conducted a comprehensive, in-depth and sincere exchange of opinions on the issues related to the establishment of new US-DPRK relations and the building of a lasting and robust peace regime on the Korean Peninsula. President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Convinced that the establishment of new US-DPRK relations will contribute to the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula and of the world, and recognizing that mutual confidence building can promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un state the following:

1. The United States and the DPRK commit to establish new US-DPRK relations in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity.

2. The United States and DPRK will join their efforts to build a lasting and stable peace regime on the Korean Peninsula.

3.Reaffirming the April 27, 2018 Panmunjom Declaration, the DPRK commits to work toward complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula

4. The United States and the DPRK commit to recovering POW/MIA remains, including the immediate repatriation of those already identified.

Having acknowledged that the US-DPRK summit -- the first in history -- was an epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries and for the opening up of a new future, President Trump and Chairman Kim Jong Un commit to implement the stipulations in the joint statement fully and expeditiously. The United States and the DPRK commit to hold follow-on negotiations, led by the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, and a relevant high-level DPRK official, at the earliest possible date, to implement the outcomes of the US-DPRK summit.

President Donald J. Trump of the United States of America and Chairman Kim Jong Un of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea have committed to cooperate for the development of new US-DPRK relations and for the promotion of peace, prosperity, and the security of the Korean Peninsula and of the world.

I know a man that's deceased that would relish the fact that Trump did nothing more at this time than to "just" have a sit down with NK. Of course he was a POW for 38 months that saw over 500 out of 800 of his fellow prisoners in his camp never leave the camp.

I can promise you if he he were still here, he would waste no time in telling you that any attempt to never let that happen again would be his preference no matter how it is avoided.

So yeah, a smidge meeting is better than a high body count.

For who? For Kim, you cultist.

The joint statement is good. Let’s see how this goes. It would be radical for North Korea to actually join the rest of the world. Whether Kim will do that is yet to be seen. But there’s nothing wrong with hoping things will be different this time.

And HOtty Toddy

both work for Fox News and hate on Trump

now how do we reconcile this when the Libs say Fox is fake news because it's more pro - Trump or republican?

the only personality I know of is Hannity who is 100% pro Trump

everyone else is pretty muh either way...

the guest are 50 50 on Trump.

I don't get it...

fox is not the home team GOP news network it's made out to be, and CNN and MSNBC are far worse than Libs will admit

Pragmatically, the US and RoK miltaries should simply proceed with planning as if the exercises will take place as originally scheduled (mid-Autumn, as I recall). They can be formally-canceled at a later date, if negotiations warrant that action.
