Criminals don’t follow the law period. Adding “gun control” laws will solve nothing. Murder is already against the law. And if you aquire your firearm legally, you already submitted to a background check. And again criminals do not follow the law. If they want a gun they will find a way to get it and they damn sure won’t register it because they don’t follow the law.

The only leftist you can trust is a dead one - but I'd still bayonet them a couple of times to be sure.

If they can get guns out of the hands of all the legal gun owners, how do they get the illegal ones off the streets?

Like drugs, I’m sure it wouldn’t be perfect but it would be harder.

Again not banning just regulating

If you don’t pay the annual bribe/tax to be allowed the privilege of “owning” you home or car, yes.

Do you think there are more guns in the hands of criminals or law abiding citizens?

It'll be like any issue (segregation, poverty, etc), instead of being proactive, conservatives will let the progressives win this game in the long run.

Law abiding citizens certainly. Again I’m talking about regulations, not bans

We need to be able to know who the law abiding gun owners are so we can crack down on illegal gun owners

They're called NICS background checks. Illegal gun owners have a tendency to by-pass this step when acquiring a gun.

Who do you propose is the arbiter of who should and should not own a gun? What basis qualifies one to own a gun vs the basis to prevent one from owning a gun (felons and children are already prohibited from purchasing them)? Plus, ownership is a constitutional right. Unlike ownership of narcotics, chemicalsp, et al.

No one disputes that these random mass shootings are horrible. But "gun violence" as a whole is way down

Uh, no. What’s the saying about guns not killing people.....If they can’t use a gun, they will use a car, knife, tool, chemicals, etc. Whatever means they need to achieve their objective. They will even get guns illegally. They are messed up, deranged, defective people.

There are more deaths from drug overdoses than murder victims.

And thats comparing the numbers for EITHER legal OR illegal substances. Not even combined.

So tell me again about the amount of control we have over narcotics and chemicals.

The standard for infringing on a constitutional right is clear. This argument falls woefully short. Try another one.

Okay, I’ll play along. Under your scheme, people register guns so that the government can kept track of gun ownership, now what? How does that keep guns out of the hands of murderers?
