TAMPA, Fla. — U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces will begin supporting Project Freedom, May 4, to restore freedom of navigation for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The mission, directed by the President, will support merchant vessels seeking to freely transit through the essential international trade corridor. A quarter of the world’s oil trade at sea and significant volumes of fuel and fertilizer products are transported through the strait.
“Our support for this defensive mission is essential to regional security and the global economy as we also maintain the naval blockade,” said Adm. Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander.
Last week, the U.S. Department of State announced a new initiative, in partnership with the Department of War, to enhance coordination and information sharing among international partners in support of maritime security in the strait. The Maritime Freedom Construct aims to combine diplomatic action with military coordination, which will be critical during Project Freedom.
U.S. military support to Project Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members.

I agree. Glad to see us make a clear stand. This should be a pivotal week.

Whatever happened to the "international fleet" that the EU was assembling to do that after the last announcement?

I am pretty sure that fell apart once it became clear they might actually have to put in some effort.

They only have to be successful once, the US had to be perfect every time.

I don't think CENTCOM would do that. Has the military made any "aspirational" statements before?

As a practical matter, I wonder which ships they will initially recruit to pass through the Strait. I don't think there are any major, American-flagged ships in the Persian Gulf.

If they attack us then we are fighting a defensive war.

Trump is daring them to fire on US ships and strike first so he can unleash the military.

Or we are controlling the supply line of oil throughout the region and world? If China wants to hold back trading certain minerals then we do the same with oil. If they want to invade Taiwan, we cut off their oil. If they want to avoid paying tariffs, we drive the price of energy up on them. They’ve held to may cards for to long. We need more negotiating power and this could be a start.

The Trump-announced US mission to guide ships out of the Persian Gulf will not involve US Navy escorts -WSJ

The US will instead instruct ships on safe avenues of passage through the Strait of Hormuz, and coordinate with shipping and insurance companies.

We have all we need and will take more when we want, not because we need.

Trump's Truth Social was ambiguous. CENTCOM'S statement went beyond information sharing:

"U.S. military support to Project Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members."

Are we in a military conflict with Iran? If so we need to control every sq mile of the straight, and use it t our advantage.

I'm not sure why this is some kind of controversy.
