newspapers report news, not make predictions about shelf lives. Jeff Bezos and Amazon should be shut down for such nonsense. Blacks are dying out faster than any other race yet participate in global economy in <1%.

Love WAPO. Keeps the libs inside the beltway thinking that they are relevant and matter. Then they ignore flyover country.

Labor costs here would be 10X that and that's a conservative estimate.
No.. Foxconn already stated that the labor cost would double to triple. That's not the cogs to Apple.
quote:
How can you even think labor would only double?
Because that's what Foxconn stated and what MIT and others have backed up.
MIT on making the iPhone here.
quote:
Assembling those components into an iPhone costs about $4 in IHS’s estimate and about $10 in the estimation of Jason Dedrick
That's the low to high. I'm even going with Foxconn who states $12.50!
quote:
doing such work in the U.S. would add $30 to $40 to the cost.
That's in line with what Foxconn stated. 3 times(high side projected) 12.50 = $37.50.
So they ALL come to that conclusion.
Now we can talk about moving the whole thing here if you want.....
quote:
What, though, if components were to be made in the U.S. as well?...estimate that producing the constituents of an iPhone in the U.S. would add another $30 or $40 to the cost of the device
That's $80.00 more to MAKE THE WHOLE DAM THING HERE!
So factor in a level playing field by reducing taxes on a corp...

He's willing to pay less for a product at the cost of jobs to millions of people who end up in the welfare system.
Or they find another job.
8 years... no other jobs to be found. Maybe you can find them jobs that does not require them to go to college at the age of 45-60. If so GREAT... But in the real world, Buckeye has not found those millions of put out people a job and the rest of the nation pays for them.
quote:
quote:
Who pays for those people?
Ahhh. Another one of the minimum wage arguments.
no.
quote:
quote:
He's short sighted and can't see the whole picture
Then you and I are both short sighted by not supporting minimum wage increases. At least I'm consistent.
No... I get the complete picture. I'm consistent. The gov created the mess, it's to gov that has to undo it, and protect it's own people. It doesn't have to be an either or.

Technology spurs globalization. The world became more global after the Industrial Revolution and is becoming even more global now after the Interwebz.
Some of this was inevitable. However, that doesn't mean we have to give up our national sovereignty or leave our borders wide open for anyone and everyone to enter at will.

To borrow from Ben Shapiro...
-Democrats turn it to 8 on GWB.
-Democrats turn it to 10 on McCain. It works.
-Democrats turn it to 11 on Romney. It works.
-Democrats turn it to 11 on Trump. People say, "damn, they were smearing Mitt left and right and that was BS. Screw it, drain the swamp."
Instead of admitting why they lost, they're blaming it on bullshite. They didn't get it then, they don't now, and they're doubling down on it.

Exactly. As shown here on many occasions, people are waking up to the fact that certain politicians have sold the US out for greed.
It's been demonstrated several times that the we can have manufacturing here. You have MIT saying the iPhone can be assembled here and the cost of doing that would only add 5% to the total COGS. At the same time, workers get jobs. Would you pay an extra $37.50 for an iPhone every 2 years or year when you are making an extra 15K per year? Sure you would!
Even if you believed the total BS spouted by a few here. We all know it can be done... so do it!
That really is the jest of it. It's not just the iPhone. New Balance makes shoes here. A Boot company moved here from Hong Kong. It can be done!

Those few on here will never accept it

They will have no choice. It's going to happen.

Y'all better not worry about white males, we're the cockroaches of the human race and we'll not go quietly ......, we perform best when all hope appears to be lost and real balls are required to right the sinking ship, that's why Trump won....., think about it!

Good luck finding a college educated person that can fix AC, do carpentry, farming, plumbing, welding, and many other skilled labor jobs. But boy can they work a stapler.

If their goal is to scare then their presumption must be that white uneducated males actually read WAPO.

Spot on, but when the socialist/globalists/communists have hijacked the educational system, MSM, and most of our culture it's makes for a difficult fight to reverse the march towards socialism/globalism where the US becomes just another country and no longer the envy of the free world. We can't let this future become reality people.

After reading that, I say bring on the zombie apocalypse. People like the guy who wrote that article would be the first to be wiped out.

Globalization is the ultimate equalizer in quality of living. It's like removing the locks/dams on a river that has 20 different levels of water throughout. It will eventually stabilize to one level.
And since the US enjoys one of the highest standards of living in the world, what do you think is going to happen?

That's right. We lose. Standard of living drops. Those without jobs have to suffer until the CEOs and Gov officials exploit all undeveloped countries. Thats what TPP is about.
We still have most of S America, Central America, and Africa to go.
