Children try and please their parents for positive recognition especially at a young age.
When you have a parent wanting to virtue signal for popularity they think nothing of the damage to their child. They’re completely devoid of rational thought these days, so they aren’t even looking for consequences past a dip in their social media popularity.

It's part of their job description. If you want to get paid, do this. And this can be anything the left is pushing. About the same as people who took the jab because their jobs were threatened. Some people will do anything to keep their job or take the easy way out.

Religious doctrine gets pretty wild when you start looking into things with the original texts:
Micah vi. 7:
"Shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"
This stuff is older than written human history tracing its origins back at least to Babylon, the Ammonites and the Phoenicians all of whom believed offering your first born ritualistically to Molech would gain you the highest reward from the gods and was banned in Judeo-Christian times, but not forgotten.
You can find clear guidance even in the Old Testament that this was a problem in the early times:
Judges 11:30-31
“And Jephthah vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou shalt without fail deliver the children of Ammon into mine hands,
Then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth of the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, shall surely be the LORD's, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.“
2 Samuel 21 1:11
“But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:
And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest,“
Eventually ritual sacrifice to Molech was banned in the King James Version:
KJ Bible Leviticus 18:21
“And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.”
But the Babylonian Talmud is a little more true to their origins stating:
Sanhedrin 64a
“MISHNAH. HE WHO GIVES OF HIS SEED TO MOLECH INCURS NO PUNISHMENT UNLESS HE DELIVERS IT TO MOLECH AND CAUSES IT TO PASS THROUGH THE FIRE. IF HE GAVE IT TO MOLECH BUT DID NOT CAUSE IT TO PASS THROUGH THE FIRE, OR THE REVERSE, HE INCURS NO PENALTY, UNLESS HE DOES BOTH.”

There’s some truth to that, but the OP is correct in that these are children whose parents hardly knew them. They spent all of their time chasing the spotlight, and their children were the casualties.
I know a New Orleans couple whose sone turned tranny. Both had C-Suite jobs and partied all the time. Their children were very neglected by their parents. It’s true that they went to the kind of high school that encouraged this trend, but so what; if he hadn’t turned tranny his depression would have manifested itself some other way. In either case, it’s a ruined life because of self-centered parents.
