So you effectively agree with him the India has a better culture than the US?

No. But he didn’t say India has a better culture than the US overall. He’s comparing people who immigrated to the US from that part of the world to US natives. Additionally, he’s speaking only about the engineering field.

What a lazy summation on your part of his post.

To be fair that is my underlying interpretation.

He believes India values essentially STEM more from the ground up. However, if this were truly the case, why isnt India anymore developed than the US currently? It has roughly 3 times the population.

Another problem is, these companies call these foreign born hires “engineers” but they are not legally “engineers”. It’s a big problem in the engineering profession.

The reason tech companies hire Indian immigrants is because they only have to pay 1/3 the salary.

The company pays 1/3 the salary and gets 60% the worker so it’s a net benefit for the company.

I agree, so why are Americans allowing for the carpetbagging of America?

The reason top tech companies often hire foreign-born & first-generation engineers over “native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit (a lazy & wrong explanation). A key part of it comes down to the c-word: culture. Tough questions demand tough answers & if we’re really serious about fixing the problem, we have to confront the TRUTH:

Our American culture has venerated mediocrity over excellence for way too long (at least since the 90s and likely longer). That doesn’t start in college, it starts YOUNG.

A culture that celebrates the prom queen over the math olympiad champ, or the jock over the valedictorian, will not produce the best engineers.

A culture that venerates Cory from “Boy Meets World,” or Zach & Slater over Screech in “Saved by the Bell,” or ‘Stefan’ over Steve Urkel in “Family Matters,” will not produce the best engineers.

(Fact: I know *multiple* sets of immigrant parents in the 90s who actively limited how much their kids could watch those TV shows precisely because they promoted mediocrity…and their kids went on to become wildly successful STEM graduates).

More movies like Whiplash, fewer reruns of “Friends.” More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less “chillin.” More extracurriculars, less “hanging out at the mall.”

Most normal American parents look skeptically at “those kinds of parents.” More normal American kids view such “those kinds of kids” with scorn. If you grow up aspiring to normalcy, normalcy is what you will achieve.

Now close your eyes & visualize which families you knew in the 90s (or even now) who raise their kids according to one model versus the other. Be brutally honest.

“Normalcy” doesn’t cut it in a hyper-competitive global market for technical talent. And if we pretend like it does, we’ll have our asses handed to us by China.

This can be our Sputnik moment. We’ve awaken from slumber before & we can do it again. Trump’s election hopefully marks the beginning of a new golden era in America, but only if our culture fully wakes up. A culture that once again prioritizes achievement over normalcy; excellence over mediocrity; nerdiness over conformity; hard work over laziness.

That’s the work we have cut out for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood & just wishing (or legislating) alternative hiring practices into existence. I’m confident we can do it.

Exactly.

He’s giving a bunch of bullshite to satisfy the capitalist wet dream that we all need to dedicate our childhoods to preparing to be high efficiency cogs in their system.

What he really wants is the freedom to hire Suresh for pennies on the dollar so that his and his buddy’s companies can increase their profits.

Them and South Korea have a worse population collapse than us!

God, Family and Country at the forefront leads to hard work and exceptionalism. That's what he have lost!

Importing millions of Indians is not what we need!

Not trying to be a dick at all, but hard times call for hard discussions as Vivek said.

These people are easy to control. They dont have a violent bone in their body so certain groups will always control them.

So be backs Musks, Americans are lazy, and tells Americans they have become a garbage culture, so fix it. But in the meantime we'll import people that will make it harder to dig out of the hole even if you fix the the problem.

Not the "America First" agenda we voted for. We knew we have a cultural problem that needs to be fixed, that is why Trump was retired. To fix that. But stupid if during that time we are just making where we want to get people back too harder.

Blah blah blah horse and carrot blah blah blah

Im sure this tweet is over the backlash of Republicans bashing the Trump selection of Sriram Krishnan to be over the AI stuff. Why is he being bashed again? IBc he has an opinion on H1B visas? He's over AI, not immigration. I mean, he's at the very top of his field.

This is opening an interesting divide. The MAGA right (cult) vs people that actually are America First.

We have real problems still. You get sick here, you're out the rat race and your family is fricked. I know "the right" hate to read this inconvenient truth. But hey, lets focus on the culture war boogeyman... those trans and gay people ruining the country. Not these hyper capitalist fricks that truly impact your life.
