a 1/2 mile in a gated community. They will arrest you for protecting your daughter from a transformer as well.

quote:

A mom of five was convicted last week of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Her offense: allowing her 5-year-old son to walk about a half-mile by himself in their gated community. Until very recently, Karyann Parkinson lived in leafy Williamsburg, Virginia. She and her husband, Dallin, moved there from Utah so Parkinson could attend William and Mary Law School. In June, when Parkinson was preparing for the bar—and also happened to be eight months pregnant with her fifth child—she and her then-youngest, Sam, went for a bike ride, as they often do. They stopped for her son's favorite activity: collecting goose feathers from the path near their community pond. When they got home, he asked if he could walk back and get some more.

quote:

Parkinson said yes. It's a short walk, along a sidewalk separated from the street by 10 feet of grass. Sam would have to cross two streets with crosswalks, which she'd seen him do safely hundreds of times—including six times that morning, she says. Off he went while she made lunch. A passerby saw Sam and alerted security. One of the community's security guards escorted the boy back and gave Parkinson an earful. Pretty soon there were three cop cars, just as many cops, a security vehicle, and two Child Protective Services (CPS) workers at Parkinson's door. CPS ended up investigating her for abuse and neglect. The cops, meanwhile, charged her with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. CPS found the allegations substantiated and placed Parkinson on the state's child abuse and neglect registry. She will remain there for seven years.

Why do parents these days just park their kids in front of ipads? This, this is why.

I was not aware Virginia had joined the UK. Guess I was wrong after reading this.

Must be a shock to Utah parents. Kids are still allowed to roam the streets and be kids there.

He went for a half mile walk so they are big mad.

She could have gotten some empathy if she had strangled the kid to death.

The whole world has lost their mind...is not the purpose of living in communities like this to be able to walk around and not worry about strangers?

Born and raised in VA and have lived other places for work but always come back....if you asked me 10 years ago if I would retire anywhere else but Va I would have said are you crazy? But everyday there are more and more stories like this up here..so many Karens, so many nosy people, etc....

I would seek revenge against a few people.

Virginia is the next state to be radicalized for fully.

Gated community. I'm guessing that means HOA?
Most likely some HOA tyrant called the cops on "a lost boy wandering the neighborhood".
Or a neighbor that doesn't like her, or husband, or both.

I think a GoFundMe should be started for this woman's appeal. And I wish her very much success in her litigations against those involved with this.

Some years back, my 8 year old son walk a half mile down the road to cut bamboo for a fort. Some asshat neighbor saw him and called the police. The officer put him in the back of his patrol car like he was a fricking criminal and brought him back to our house where he told my wife he'd arrest her if she let him out of her sight again.
It was about that time I realized backing the blue is a crock of shite. They'll turn on you as soon as they're told to.

That's when you say "thank you officer. I appreciate your diligence and care. What's your name and badge number? I want to commend you to your supervisor."

Then proceed to blister everyone from the desk sergeant to the Chief of Police and Mayor about it.

I was living in the People's Republic of Athens at the time. They would have just laughed at me.

The goal is to foster dependence and suppress independence so that the population is fragile instead of resilient.

A fragile population relies on the government. A resilient population doesn’t.

WTF. He wasn't going to the corner store with a note to purchase cigarettes for his mother. I used to ride my bike with training wheels around my neighborhood by myself at that age. Jesus.

Have to admit, 5 years old is borderline for me. I have a pond about a 1/4 mile from me, so I’d probably keep an eye on my 5 year old. 8 years old-let him run free.

ETA: in no world should charges be filed.

Still amazes me that GenX, my generation, were allowed to roam all day and into the night, yet we seem to be the generation that started this bullshite.

GenX men should have locked down the Karens and Kens before they became Karens and Kens.
