‘We need an updated green book’: Black truck driver shares his harrowing experience in Texas sundown town
ABlack truck driver on TikTok known as Gideon reveals in a viral video what he witnessed last week while traveling through a "sundown town."
The video, which has been viewed nearly 800,000 times since posting, details the man's experience while visiting the notorious town of Vidor, Texas.
Vidor was once considered a haven for the Ku Klux Klan and has long been seen as a "sundown town," a predominately white area that is considered unsafe for Black people after sunset due to racial violence. Although city officials have claimed that the town has undergone significant changes in recent decades, Gideon's experience reveals that some things still haven't changed.
"Pretty much everybody I know in Texas that's Black tells me, 'Do not go to Vidor, Texas,'" Gideon says. "I'm like 'OK' but here I was in Vidor, Texas."
The TikToker goes on to state that while driving to his destination to drop off his load, he came across numerous trailer parks with Confederate flags and even a doll of a Black man hanging from a tree by its neck.
Upon reaching his destination, Gideon says that he was approached by a security guard who immediately alerted his fellow workers that they were experiencing a "code red." The security guard expressed that he did not want to be responsible for the truck driver's safety by allowing him to drive further into the business to drop off his delivery.
Gideon says another man eventually appeared about 15 minutes later to quickly help him unload his truck before urging him to leave the area.
"He said, 'Dude, you might want to get up out of here as soon as possible. We're at sundown. You want to leave now.'"

I highly suspect that's exaggerated
That said, I've heard folks on this board talk about Vidor being a legitimately racist as hell place, so maybe not by much

When the supply of racism is not meeting the demand, make some shite up.

Dude is FOS. Vidor hasn't been that kind of town in decades.
Someone will disprove him and everyone will forget about this story.
Wonder if he has any comments on NYC and the Asian murders.

Vidor IS pretty bad, but this dude's story is fan fiction.

TikTok worked beeeaaauuuutttiiifffuuulllyy when he made these claims. Not so much for actually filming evidence of his claims.
Must have been a glitch.

We’ll, I know of a lot of places that I would be straight up attacked for the color of my skin. From 10 am on.

As a black man, I never stop in vidor when I’m headed to Houston. Avoid that city at all costs.

Atlanta, St Louis, Chicago
Growing some Sunrise and Sun Down areas.
Didn’t watch but has been a long time since I’ve been anywhere and seen black people targeted because they are black. Not profiled but targeted for harm.

So what if you do not want people you know and trust, people just like you and whose culture you can identify with in your town? That is your town and elections are held to elect the "servants" you want serving in your town. Are there any asian or latin people living and working there? Regardless, that is the choice of the people of Vidor. I certainly could not live in Vidor because I like lo mien and chicken mole' enchiladas when I am not eating fried chicken and turnip greens with hot water cornbread!
Why is it always about a black person? How come I do not ever hear about the white person commenting about not being able to live or work in Harlem or Watts?

Most likely exaggerated. But I am sure there are some areas crappy white people still live that are extreme racists. Just like there are crappy black people that live in certain neighborhood areas that are extreme racists. As a white male there are many areas I wouldn't go to after sundown.

Does this mean north Baton Rouge is a sun down town?

Vidor is a rough place because of white trash meth heads. White trash meth head does not equal racist skin head. With that being said I know dozens of hard working decent people from Vidor. I have an uncle that has lived there for 60 years. That place hasn't been a sun down down in 40 years.

Beaumont is a fricking war zone, so your better off with a few OLD racist in Vidor than stopping in Beaumont and getting shot. Black on black crime there is much worse.
