I think this would be much more well recieved nationally now than in 2016. We weren't nearly as Looney tunes as we are now.

Yeah I don't want to hear anything else about Trump Foucci. Everyone firmly stepped in that giant COVID pile of shite.

This was only three years ago. We remember how Trump dragged his feet through January 2021 with his COVID response while DeSantis was pushing for a return to normalcy and getting shredded for it in May 2020. No amount of gaslighting from Trump supporters is going to change that.

It's not going to decide the primary, but COVID is a losing issue for Trump in a Trump/RDS primary and one of his biggest weaknesses.

Right. It's not good for any of them. It's not really even a point Desantis could bring up because he would get wrecked too. That's my point. Very few did it right, Desantis included.

This is a lie. I was on Rosemary Beach after renting a house multiple times. Flew direct to Destin and drove there after renting a car. Never wore a mask. I was then and still am unvaccinated, and never had a problem.

This is NOT a lie! In Spring/Summer 2020. De Santis shut down vacation rentals in Fl. I know because we had a family vacation scheduled and had to move it to Orange Beach. This was May-June 2020. You obviously were in a different time and didn't read my post. There were no vaccines in May/June 2020. You probably were talking about 2021.

Wrong. Its a great point for Desantis and no amount of gaslighting as previously said can change that.

Desantis did things in retrospect not many of us would agree with, but he was among the most conservative when it came to this stuff, and changed courses in an extremely populous state as quick as anyone.

There is a long history of him pushing back from early on, and he got the Deathsantis nickname extremely early.

He ended that policy in May of 2020 at the State level, only a month and a half into the pandemic.

A lot of people should get passes, including Trump, for some stuff like this for the first 2-3 months. It was a confusing time. After that is when we should judge people.

It's not gaslighting. It's right here in this very thread. One campaign video involving what he said here would put him on equal footing with Trump on COVID to the average voter that doesn't consume politics everyday. COVID is probably something we need to let go. Unless Noem runs, probably best nobody talks about COVID leadership.

It's a great point for Noem.

I remember it was the Desantis crowd that was out here swinging before he even got re elected governor. His supporters soured his presidency before he even announced. It should have been cordial here. Regardless of Trump's tactics, it wasn't his supporters that were on the attack it was you guys. You failed to sway any opinions and now you sit here claiming defeat and that the ship will sink.

I think both camps should admit both are not flawless and quit pushing each other around or we will end up with folks that won't vote for the candidates out of spite. Not because of the candidate but because of us.

I have repeatedly said this for years now, long before Desantis decided to run.

I think Trump should go down the Covid path, For sure. Keep it up.

He partially ended it. Renters from states like NY continued to be banned I think. He is a statist just like Trump and the Democrats. The only difference is they wear red hats and get villified by the media and minority voters.

I think this video shows which government official gets it. It was a crazy and uncertain time but banning beach rentals while hotels remained open was plain stupid. De Santis got drunk with power just as Fauci, Trump and the democrats.

Is it hard to slam Desantis for his response and ignore Trump pushing/supporting more govt overreach during that same time.

Seems hard to be that inconsistent.

And to be fair, I give every one a pass on their actions during the early days of COVID.

Let's hear the usual talking points

FL has a way higher population
FL has an older population so Ron had to shut it down to protect them
SD doesn't have as many people per sq mile
etc
Also know as facts.

But I guess when they don't fit the agenda you've already set and refuse to change in the face of facts, you then pass them off as "talking points."

It's politics in a nutshell, people pick a side, and no facts will make them change their mind. They'll just pretend facts aren't true.

I was in Orange Beach on May 16th 2020. Florida was shut down that whole month. I thought it extended into June but i can't confirm that. It was actually 2 and 1/2 months into the Pandemic when he ended it. He shut the Beaches down in Mid March.

Weird. Not every state’s residents were banned from beach rentals. Why was that?

I don't understand why anyone would do this. Covid response is probably the most impactful "event" on the country since WWII, and it was largely a scam.

If we look the other way and give those accountable a free pass on Covid response, it's just a matter of time before the next "existential threat" is trotted out to justify limiting freedoms and spending trillions.

I think excusing leader’s actions up until May (arbitrary cutoff for sure) is one thing. Excusing their actions past two to three months is nonsense.
