And he didn't even attempt a followup, which is out of his character. Moved right on. He knew he got dusted bad.

Here's how that exchange went down with Acosta:
quote:

CNN: "How can this be the 'Schumer shutdown' when Republicans control the White House, the House and the Senate?"

Mulvaney: "Come on, you know the answer to that as well as anybody. I laugh, I have to laugh, when people say that: 'Oh, well you control the House, the Senate, the White House. Why can't you get this done."

CNN: "But you do."

Mulvaney: "You know as well as anybody that it takes 60 votes in the Senate to pass an appropriations bill. You know that."

CNN: "I know that."

Mulvaney: "So when you only have 51 votes in the Senate, then you have to have Democrats' support in order to keep the government, to fund the government."

Yea - he's proven in the past you don't try to play the gotcha game with him. He's sharp as a tack and quick on his feet.

Actually I wish that Mulvaney had just asked the room = "Hey - does anyone here know why the GOP cannot do this by themselves even if they hold a one-vote majority in the Senate?? Mr. Acosta here seems to be the only one who doesn't know."

Mulvaney just may be my favorite spokesperson - Total mastery of the facts - Total dedication to his task - complete disregard for the slings and arrows of the MSM rat horde - Articulate to a tee - Just enough humor to not be regarded as a smart arse.
