If those frickers hit La Sagrada Familia I'd drop a fricking MOAB on Mecca.
( of course I wouldn't, but I'd enjoy the thought of it as it went through my head).
The thing that makes Barcelona difficult is that it is all connected by thousands of ally ways and back doors and places to hide . Bad guys could get lost in Barcelona for a long time.
The area hit is ground zero for tourism. Catalonians are so chill/ cool - I hate this for them.

My 2 best friends are in Barcelona right now and t happened a block away from where they were.
Pretty shook right now they said it's a touristy area. They took cover with police in a near by building.
Tell them to glare angrily at Muslims for the rest of their trip. I'm flying through Detroit and Minneapolis tomorrow and I'm definitely going to have my fully furrowed brow going on.

The only thing that makes me question that it's muslim (i'm sure it is, FWIW) is the alleged hostage scenario

They're not smart enough for things like that it seems. If you think of all the soft targets out there, all the politically meaningful targets out there.... their attack methods and strategies are thankfully really terrible.

For such a small, isolated, perverted part of a religion, this sure seems to happen a lot...
But we do know this is only one or two lone wolfs and they are in no way representative of their entire race or religion.

How did the crowd provoke them?
We need to look at both sides here.

This is what I kind of think too, although I suspect you and I are underestimating how difficult it is to pull off a high casualty number. People are resistant, they fight, the flee, etc.
The most frightening move, I think, would be a move to far less meaningful soft targets. Suburban movie theaters, restaurants, etc. rather than city centers and famed streets. I think European states do a decent job making it fairly difficult to pull off a well orchestrated attack, so when they're in a position to do so, the tendency is to go for the home run (where there are more barriers, cops, etc.)
