Patriot mobile air-to-surface air-defense systems that detect and shoot down incoming missiles, drones and other airborne enemy equipment have already been removed from the military compound, the sources said, without providing further details. The pullout started last week and is ongoing, with the bulk of the US forces and their heavy equipment out, the sources said. “All” of the Patriot anti-missile batteries had been redeployed to an undisclosed destination, they said, adding that other defensive weapons systems remained in place as of the time of publication.

Regional officials described the pullout as routine and in line with the US commitment to withdraw all its forces from Iraq by a Sept. 30 deadline that was agreed with Baghdad.

However, coming amid sustained attacks by Iran and its Shiite proxy militias, and on the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in particular, the withdrawal has left the Kurds feeling badly exposed.

CENTCOM spokesperson Capt. Tim Hawkins declined to comment on any ongoing troop movements.

We have fricked the Kurds over so many times in the past 40 years, I have no idea why they would have any trust in us at all.

one of the big losers in trump's iran war is the patriot defense system. they are just not very good for what they cost and for what they were presented as capable of.

Iran succeeded in driving us out of Iraq.

Hit us pretty hard there.

They fricked us to several times, most recently by not giving the firearms we gave them for them to give to Iranians who were going to fight against the regieme.

But yes, we screwed over the kurds (thats probably why they kept the guns), but we do that shite to everyone, including US citizens.

I believe Israel is moving their Space Laser program into the Kurdish areas which has been more effective & substantially cheaper than the Patriot defense system. I suspect the Patriots are moving to KSA, Kuwait, and the UAE.

I think it’s weird to worry about one defense system to begin with or where it moves to. I think it’s a good thing that we have a somewhat decent relationship with Iraq with all things to consider.

No shite, right. We’ve been there for 20 fricking years and have every right to redeploy our defenses.

People forget Iran started hitting other countries in retaliation, including Iraq. They’re the wreckless ones and why they can’t be trusted w a nuke. This conflict has shown how volatile they are.

They really shouldn't have double-crossed Trump on the weapons intended for the Iranian resistance.

That is how it goes in that area of the world. No one is trustworthy.

But there are multiple groups of Kurds. Syrian, Iraqi, Iranian, etc, etc.

They are not a unified group.

We started this war.

They have systematically pounded bases and made us move things to Jordan. Now they are working on Jordan. We have taken a beating.

There is no reason to engage in this discussion. Most of this board completely disregards the strategic front his war is being fought on and instead focuses on the US's ability to project strength through bombing campaigns.

While this headline is technically correct. There is more to the story than a knee jerk reaction one might have by reading the headline. And then I remember the head honcho from Iraq was in the White House a week or two ago. I suspect he discussed this with POTUS.
