Yes he's a sociopath heading up the largest kleptocracy on earth, harboring a personal grievance over the demise of the USSR. Awesome guy.

Well Crimea is the home of the Russian Black sea fleet and the only Russian port that doesn't freeze.

He had it without owning it, so again what has he won beyond what is at most, best case scenario, a Pyrrhic victory? Won for his country not his personal ego?

I'd add that he's trying to fight the sociopathic kleptocracy.

He's essentially battling the spread of the New World Order, whether or not he has equally bad intentions as the NWO, I'm not sure, but he is most definitely fighting that order.

Dude just gtfo with your looney nonsense. You've been dismissed repeatedly, shown to be an intellectual non-factor and a complete fraud.

Ask Putin's cronies how these sanctions feel in 6 months.

The sanctions are hurting Louisiana more than Russia right now. One of those "cronies" owns two major sites on the Mississippi River, one in St. James Parish and one in St. Gabriel, that were planned to be developed into chemical plants. However, thanks to the sanctions, those plans are now mothballed until further notice. Construction could have been starting up in the next year or two.

Negative. Russia's stature on the world stage is very important to Putin and his ilk. Being removed from the G8 like a misbehaving child will sting his ego. He spent billions on the Olympics trying to portray Russia as a legitimate first world civilized nation only to have all that good publicity turn to shite a few weeks later.

I'm not overly familiar with the Russian economy, but if they are self sustaining re:energy and food, I can see Putin giving the G7 a big ol' and not giving two shits about the UN.

Welcome to the Cold War, Round 2. Now where's Dr Manhattan?

Putin cared much more about portraying that Russia was legit - to Russians. If he's selling this to Russians as Russia standing up to the bullies & winning, this crap doesn't matter.

The bottom line is that Russia predicted that there would be a price to pay for taking Crimea, but they're obviously willing to pay a much steeper price to keep it than the price the West would be willing to pay to force them to give it back, and that's assuming there is a way to force them to give it back without starting WWIII. By the way, Iran's nuclear program also has this cost-benefit dynamic. The only issue on which Iran's pro-western secularists agree with the mullahs and hardliners is the nuclear issue, and they would rather go to war to defend their nuclear rights than crawl to their knees to the West and cry uncle. I don't know why it's so hard for so many Americans to understand that other nations are just as proud and nationalistic as we are.

This seems pretty significant. I'm glad Europe finally nutted up and agreed to do something even if it's small.

How is that going to happen? Perhaps you don't understand how the U.N. Charter is written.

I would be significant if it was possible. However, if all it took was a simple majority to lose your veto, the U.S. would have lost its veto a long ago, since we've abused it more than any other nation in the U.N.'s history.

how soon is near?

The projections I have seen for when the BRIC's take over as the dominant economies, particularly China overtaking the U.S., is by 2050, so not so near. Our economy is still twice the size of China's, and they are number 2 in the world. They are growing about 7% a year while we are growing about 2.5% a year. I am not a macro-economist by an stretch, just quoting recent and projected metrics of others.

OBAMA: "Oh, well. I think I'll go play a round of golf while Moochelle Antoinette goes on another multimillion dollar vacation on the taxpayer's dime."

Uhhh...no they're not, but let's entertain this idea: What should be done in lieu of these sanctions?
