Well we’re actually using it correctly this time - in a time of war or emergency. Joe raided it because of his fricked up fiscal policy. I guess we just don’t want to talk about that because the current decline was no where near the decline under the previous administration. In fact if Joe hadn’t raided it like he did, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

How much of that deficit is due to the last administration

Can you compare 1982 domestic oil production to 2026 domestic oil production? If so, please let us know.

This is the kind of question the TDS crowd refuse to or are just incapable of asking.

The lower reserve doesn't matter much if production levels are appropriate.

But instead of asking the most basic question, they immediately jump to outrage. The desire to complain on the right far exceeds its will to think logically.

The level of emotional thinking will be a long-term problem that outlives Trump. Even if things aren't great right now, cutting off your nose to spite your face is never the solution. Conservatives struggle mightily with that.

Of course.

We still import 8 million bpd. If something or someone were to interrupt that daily flow, do you think the domestic companies would just be able to flip some switches and cover that production? Or would we need the SPR to handle the deficit?

Trump — 1st term (FY2017–FY2020): ~$5.6 trillion
* Biden (FY2021–FY2024): ~$7.7 trillion
* Trump — 2nd term: FY2025 deficit was ~$1.8 trillion; FY2026 is still in progress.

Trump is on a pace to hit or exceed $8T in his second term, and will be roughly $14T in his two terms.

Deficit projects to be about $46T when he leaves office.

For reference, Obama was about $7.5T in 8 years in office.

As stated yesterday, the Trump-Biden-Trump presidencies have exploded our debt.

Given that Trump ran on fiscal responsibility, the fact that he’ll exceed 8 years of Obama in his second 4 year term is astounding.

Trump cutting USAID and securing the border have been major wins for the country…though temporary.

He’s a massive disappointment otherwise.

Or, and hear me out, “reserves” are there in case a substantial portion of your sources are unavailable, regardless of domestic or imported.

It’s not that far-fetched anymore to consider that hacking could take out a significant part of domestic supply, whether it be pipeline controls, power grids, whatever.

Even if I have a well paying job and a decent portfolio, I still have savings.

Don't need reserves as much, when you have more of your own

Are you implying that US companies can be compelled to bypass the global market and sell directly to the US govt at discount?

Or even more laughable, that US companies would do so out of allegiance to the flag?

And now everyone will understand why Iran keeps prolonging it. This is the core leverage point and the longer it goes on it weakens our position. US can't afford another emergency release of it's reserves. Prices headed upward.

What does any of that have to do with the physical SPR being low? The actual qty of reserve barrels has dropped dramatically

Really? The rate of replenishment has nothing to do with how supply is utilized? Who educated you?

And we export 4-6 million barrels a day. Along with another 4 million of petroleum products a day.

We are fine.

What is your point?

Quick lesson: The US gov't purchases crude directly from the global market in order to replenish the SPR. Doesn't matter if domestic production increases x 5. There are no local discounts.

Higher production draws down reserves.

I'm nor gonna sit here and educate you. You're too far behind. Do some research and check back, kid. Then we can have a semi decent exchange because your thought process will be different. Instead of thinking its panic time over reserves. It isn't
