Oh horse shite.

If you are a "Republican" you are one of thos ecliche-ridden Kasich supporting aholes.

No actual Republican whines about Fox News or "tax cuts for the rich"

As for Panhandling, I want a section 8 style program to get them into these gentrified neighborhoods that rich white leftists fill. Grab yourselves some fricking diversity bitches

simple Google search on professional panhandlers would have yielded you results, bucko.

So two stories and a broken link. Must be rampant in every city.

Or go and actually talk to people who work with the homeless instead of bloviating about it on the internet

I HAVE worked with homeless people. You're the one that's bloviating on the internet considering the fact that you actually have no real life context.

I live in Austin Texas and we have a huge homeless population. You can see them outside of the arc every morning and various spots in town and they are definitely homeless. Now is there a panhandler every now and again that isn't homeless? Sure but is it some high percentage or some rampant amount? Know the answer to that is obviously no and anyone who thinks that is obviously trying to shed empathy to make it easier for themselves or just an idiot.

I have no problem with panhandlers. If people wouldn't give to them, they wouldn't be out there.

The personal behavior and employment qualifications of the homeless probably has a lot more to do with their homelessness .

Mental health probably the biggest reason.

Myth. Drug addiction is a bigger cause, but mental illness doesn't account for a third of them.

The problem is the more programs you have for homeless, the more homeless you will have.

NYC has (or did have) a program to get them out of the city by bus or even airplane.

Link? Also, dont you think that level if drug addiction is indicative of poor mental health?

Addiction is a temporary and voluntary mental illness that can be fixed.

Most of our local homeless are addicts or drunks. There's a shite load of resources but behavioral issues keep them from long term housing.

Ok. I see where youre coming from. I agree but do note that addiction is considered a mental illness:

Addiction is a disease of the brain.

Either way, these people comprise the homeless which comprises the vast majority of people panhandling. The op is mostly irrelevant.

Why?

Are we supposed to just say, "Welp, they're insane. I guess that's that..." ?

I once had this cracked out black dude yelling "frick white people" on the bus. He sat behind me and spit on my neck. Only when I stood up at my stop did he look up at me with those bullshite puppy dog eyes and ask me for a dollar. I told him to go frick himself and bailed.

Come to think of it I haven't given anything to beggars since then.

I was 20 years old and living in Norfolk. I was at a WaWa station getting gas when some guy comes up and gives me a sob story about how he's broke but has to get to Richmond and needs gas money. I put $10 in the guy's car (plenty enough to make the 60 mile trip from Norfolk to Richmond). After I put $10 in his car, I watched him go give the exact same sob story to the next person who walked in the store and knew I had been duped.

I made a decision that day to never give money to a beggar again, and 8 years later, I haven't.

Addiction is a choice. I know there are people who think that addiction is a disease, but you aren't going to buy shots of cancer at the bar.

WE NEED BETTER MENTAL HEALTH TREATMENT. It's funny how much you guys are for it when you think your guns might get taken away but for homeless people.... not exactly a priority.

This is something that hits a little close to home. I've seen two family members destroy their lives because they couldn't put the needle down. They don't have a disease and no one ever forced them stick a needle in their arm. Addiction is voluntary. Real diseases are not.

The op said that we need to do something about panhandlers because it's unsafe and annoying. You just said the op was irrelevant because panhandlers are insane. How does the mental health issue make the op irrelevant? His question is, "What do we do about it?". You say it's irrelevant and spout off about guns as if answering a question I didn't ask.
