Did you hit an age milestone? Your arguments are so basic lately, I'm suspicious that you've hit the old age brain like Roger.

Right. Just like if we don't let the government take all the AR15s away, we will have school shootings and daily mass shootings.

That’s a completely false equivalence.

No one is saying you can’t build weapons.

They’re just saying if you build national defense items the patents and export controls are going to be looked at with oversight from the feds as they would in literally any other nation in the world.

I'm not the one cheering government ownership of otherwise private companies... you are, Karl.

Not a good idea, I don't care WHO is proposing it.

Didn't like it when the feds took ownership stakes in the banks and GM in the 2008 crisis in return for bailouts.

We all screamed about it back then but then because it's Trump, well, we just check out conservative principles at the door.

Government has no business taking shares of private business. Trump can be as enlightened as possible. However, a future president will start bending those companies to his will as an owner. Won't even have to issue rules but instead just tell them what to do.

BAD idea.

IDK either. On one hand, they were given more than that in grants. I don't think it is a good precedent though.

And instead of just giving tax dollars away, we are invested. Do this enough and the US taxpayer is getting a serious return on their money.

fricking lulz

People justifying this at all are pure sycophants.

Don't need complex arguments when something is so obvioulsy wrong.

Or maybe government should be giving money away to businesses. Just an idea.

If that option was on the table, you would be right. Unfortunately, in the real world, the government is giving away money.

So, your realistic options are:
1. Give away taxpayer money and get a return on the investment
2. Give away taxpayer money and get nothing in return

The "principled conservatives" choose to continue wasting taxpayer money. That's what happens when you don't live in the real world.

It would be great if they cut all the spending, but that's not going to happen. This is also money already allocated by law, so choosing to not get a return in this specific instance is even dumber.

If you want the US to maintain its technological advantage, money has to be spent. It makes sense to make a profit on that money. If companies don't want to pay back the money with interest, then they shouldn't take it to begin with.

Conservatives see all the problems with the country, but they refuse to do anything to fix them because their economic principles tell them there is only one way to do things. And when that way is not feasible, they do nothing and complain instead.

Everyone does remember that we as taxpayers once owned.. what… half of General Motors and as much, if not close, to Chrysler?

And Obama sold most of the GM stock at a loss of course.

Hopefully intel doesn’t start building chips that have defects that make them quit at a high rate and they keep chugging along with it like GM does.
